We have less members than Melbourne...
Read this in The Age today...just thought it was interesting (and sad).
We are the only 2 clubs in the league whose membership has gone down from last year.
Not having a go at anyone, just simply stating the fact.
Go Saints.

Gee, I wonder what we have in common? That's right, we finish third last, they finish second last. Is it really a big surprise that our membership dropped?kp83 wrote:We are the only 2 clubs in the league whose membership has gone down from last year.

Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
I doubt the membership numbers will improve next year either - with the teams performances this year and as CP mentioned the likelihood of some unpopular trades at years end. I can see our membership numbers plummeting below 30k before things improve !

At least we won't be sacking coaches and paying out like Melbourne do. We know we are on the rebuild.

You could try putting a fork in it. I have heard that can make it at least feel multi pronged. An old guy in Canberra did it but got it in too deep.

We finished ninth last year, they finished 16th. Why has our membership dropped so much?bergholt wrote:Gee, I wonder what we have in common? No need to be cranky pal, as I said, just stating what was in the paper today.bergholt wrote:Gee, I wonder what we have in common? That's right, we finish third last, they finish second last. By the way, we finished 9th last year so all those that didn't re-sign should go to the TAB tomorrow as they can all predict the future.

Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
Many reasons..I think people have seen the writing on the wall- pretty poor performances this season, no stand-out players coming through the ranks to give much hope for next season, impending retirement of favorite older players. People don't relate to Seaford as a home base, no big sponsors. I think the club has dug a hole which it is going to have a hard time crawling out of sadly. Also, money is tighter than ever, and people don't want to commit to a losing cause. We would need a couple of years of winning form, plus a lot of smart business strategies to stop the rot.Bernard Shakey wrote:We finished ninth last year, they finished 16th. I believe Scott Watters has a lot to do with it. He is not 'mans man' and IMO comes across very poorly in the media. He speaks well but sounds like a private school boys coach not an AFL coach in that tough environment. Consequently only a select few believe or put any credence in what he says !Bernard Shakey wrote:We finished ninth last year, they finished 16th. You can also put it in a glass of wine and take photos of it and send those photos to your mistress. Career limiting, but amusing nevertheless.gringo wrote:BakesFan wrote:I only have one member.

Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
I moved to Perth for important family reasons.
Suggest Perth Sainters reluctant to buy Interstate Membership as Saints came over ONCE this year.
And still have to purchase ticket to Subiaco Oval! (yes, I know, away game) you would think the club could get us ONE ticket as the membership costs so much!
We do get entry to some games in Melbourne included, in case we fly to Melbourne.
Poor, poor value IMHO

Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
With respect to our WA members, but what exactly do you expect out of a membership? You'd be lucky if we played there twice a year, you live around 3000k away from our home ground, unless you plan to come here for those few games you get entry to it's really more of a donation to the club.WellardSaint wrote:I moved to Perth for important family reasons.

Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
wrong. It is panic stations IMO and only NZ can save us. We deseperatel need about 3 or even 4 home games a year in NZ for at ekast $1.5Mmatrix wrote:cost of living going up

If we average say 28K members for the next 3 years we are millions down the drain and it effects our ability to spend on the footy department.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
Posted we are in trouble 6 months ago... Got ridiculed...
Club was defended, not made accountable for some poor calls in the last decade when we were beneficiaries of some boon draft selections....
Wrt
Player management, drafting and development, negotiating with City of Kingston, abandoning Tas, dumping core players, losing a champ and successful coach, re-surfacing Moorabbin and then leaving, Casey and Sandy alignment issues. Continual off field problems and scandals....
Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn and StKilda... Powerhouses of the last ten years.... Look at the management of each club and how it evolved in that time??

Re: We have less members than Melbourne...
Amazing insight. Who else would have known we were in trouble 6 months ago. Like all the poorer clubs we will go through a bad stage money wise and then we will come good again once the side improves which will happen. We are going to lose even more members but there is no need to panic. Swings and roundabouts for the poorer drawing sides.
