The fact he was quiet, and Kelly blitzed the combine makes me think (hope) that Kelly might go @ 2 and we get a future skipper in Aish!

BTW, what did Dumont end up with? He was leading possie winner @ 3/4 time wasn't he?

15 possessions for a child playing against men is no mean feat.

Bring on the kid - whoever he is

Cheers! I would jump at him in the draft if he somehow was free @ our second pick - unlikely though.

Aish's second premiership, still 17yo. Clean user. Three kids for Norwood were still good, Dumont is a solid lad.
You'd think Bassett will be an AFL soon.

May I ask.. Is Aish a accumulator of the ball or is he a guy that gets a few times and uses it well with skill?

Was his dad that wuss that captained SA against the Vics that day at the G when Plugger and Dunstall went berserk?

No, that's his uncle, Michael. James' dad is Andrew.

Andrew played 89 games for Norwood. Michael played 307. If Michael was his dad, the Crows would get him father-son.

Basset was just on the radio praising Aish saying it was his best defensive game in a long time.

I was at the game today and had the binoculars on Aish as I think he is going to drop to pick 3. He played on the wing and is an outside runner who uses the ball very well. Good skill & good decisions _ runs to the right places, very smart footballer. Not overly tall at 175 cm. Will be a direct replacement for Joey Montagna _ very very similar. Will take 2 seasons to get a body hard enough to play the full 22 games.

There were 3 other potential u18 draftees playing.

Trent Dumont for norwood was outstanding in the first half. Played in the guts. 185-ish cm mid. Very strong at the clearance contests and laid some good tackles and got a lot of the ball. Faded in the 2nd half as he looked like he ran out of legs but very strong core with a big bum but not heavy. Inside Player who reminds me a lot of the way Lenny Hayes goes about it. I have seen him play a few times this year and got better as the season wore on. I would have thought he was a 3rd round pick earlier this year but he has definitely firmed as a 2nd rounder. This kid will definitely get games at Afl level next year. I'd be very happy to get him with our 2nd rounder - just needs to build a bit more of a tank.

The 3rd player for norwood was fantasia. Very light and not tall outside player who couldn't really hold his feet. Courageous and skillfull tried hard but he's a long term prospect. Needs to bulk up _ and probably a rookie list candidate for one of the SA clubs.

Amato from North Adelaide did some clever things, can win hos own bal
and play inside and outside. My guess he is a late 3rd round or maybe 4th round selection. I didn't focus on him as much so I may have missed some of his play.

I was at the game as well today. Not a chance in hell Aish is only 175cm & 61kg as it stated in the Budget.
Most mock drafts have him at 184cm & 75kg.

Agreed he looks taller than the 175 they had him listed at but when you looked at him in the huddle, he was still one of the shorter ones.

By the way, have seen him win his own ball this year, and will develop an inside game at AFL level once he gets stronger.

A real smoove mover, and an ideal replacement for Dal Santo, if he chooses to leave. Not overly quick, but fantastic awareness in traffic and user of the footy. He's basically a right footed version of Dal.

I'd be happy with Aish or Kelly. I suppose it just depends who goes no. 2. Both will be good AFL mids. Don't think we lose out either way.

Could be eventually, needs to work on his inside game.

Bartel is tougher in the contest, wins his own ball and is a marking threat up forward or in defence. He's a bit robotic, not in a bad way just that he's not a Roles Royce. He's a tough beast.

As I mentioned, Aish plays very similar to Dal Santo. He's an outside mid and has played most of his junior and SANFL footy on the back flank and wing. He's extremely creative and the type of player you want to get in his hands. He has a lot of hurt factor. That's not to say Aish has a career anywhere near the level of Bartel just that they are very different.

A highly rated kid similar to Bartel in the draft? Perhaps Ben Lennon or Jack Billings.
