Beginning of the end for Goddard

Two soft tissue injuries, calf and hamstring, and the season hasn't even started yet. Did we know something when we decided to cut him loose?

Actually we did know something. Not major, but enough.

It's one of (but not the only) reason we refused to offer him a contract any longer than 3 years.

Essendon aware too, but decided reward > risk, which is entirely understandable given where their list is at.

Situations reversed and I would expect our club to move aggressively.

Our time will come and we can steal someone elses favourite

The main doubt about Brendon's fitness and longevity has always centred around his hip. As I've posted before, an orthopedic surgeon who was consulted about it was prepared to bet his substantial East Hawthorn mansion on the fact that BJ would be unlikely to play beyond 2014, and if he made it that far, he would be severely diminished and limited as a player. I guess we'll see. I still think the club did the right thing in trading for him. At least we got something decent in return.

If no Essendon players get banned then if this happened it would be Karma.

Hell of a lot more than losing 1 player early due to injury needed to balance the karma ledger.

I heard the same about daisy though. A mate who's nephew played at the Pies and shares the same surgeon was told that Daisy had several attempts to regrow cartilage by smashing the surface to stimulate regrowth and that it was now running on bone still. He couldn't believe he passed a Carlton medical but he's looking fit- I saw him running recently and he's up and about.

He has missed one game through injury since returning from his knee operation in round 3 2008, that's about 150 games ago. Yep, he's a real crock. Week to week proposition.

And the game he missed was due to flu. He was also suspended for 2 games.

Give it time, grasshopper. The ox is slow, but the earth is patient. As is the karma bus.

Yes, it's hard to get injured as a wide receiver. Life's a bit tougher when you play as a ball-winning, inside mid.

End of Goddard not gonna happen

We are talking about a player of stkfc who (in my view) was our best player in the gf I believe he played with a broken clavicle as well.

Highly doubt it will be the end

We breed them tough at st kfc

I'd hope not

The emotion after his first game against us showed me plenty

Bled for this club so I wish him no ill

Ditto Dal

Fair to say BJ and Dal are two of the most resilient players in the AFL.
They basically play week in week out. They are hardly ever injured - if ever.

Add to this ;

His presence at our last game last year showed his respect/love of his former team-mates.

Back on topic; There is probably only one player (Lenny) who has come back better from a knee reco. Yes, BJ has had hip problems (I don't know how serious), but he's tough, think back to that GF where he finished the game with his nose all over his face and ?? a broken collarbone !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

I hold no grudges against BJ.

I totally understand why he would've accepted the Bombers offer. And good luck to him.

If there is a part of me that secretly hopes he doesn't have a long and successful career at Essendon, it is because of that club and not because of him.

I don't want the Bombers to have done a great deal; I want them to flop.

It's probably because of our club's history of poor deals while the likes of Essendon lose GOPs to expansion clubs and pick up Matty Lloyd as compensation. And of course there's the whole Hirdy Danky Hanky Panky stench to the mob that just makes you want to see them fall flat on their face.

So I wish Goddard no ill but wish Essendon no luck or success. And that of course can lead to some conflicting emotions :?

he's gone move on , pretty sure he won the bf last year ? cant be travelling to bad. Was a terrific servant , he left for more money and we needed the picks, salary cap room nothing much to do with his body. People said same about nick r couple seasons ago, from all reports he's in for good year :)

I'm more interested to hear how Tommy Lee's shoulder is coming along.

Absolutely, whilst I wish they were still with us and it somewhat hurts, s*** happens and we move on.

Is it best for the club? Unfortunately yes
