A Flag in 6 Years

ST KILDA have committed to winning their long-awaited second AFL premiership before 2020.

The struggling Saints released their strategic plan at Thursday night’s season launch, with the club also declaring they want to build an admired culture.

While St Kilda expect the next two years to be very challenging on the field, they have planned to be back in the top four by 2018.

Well, I actually don't mind it, because it is such a bold statement of intent.
Summers would have considered the blowback to come from the usual snipers.
But he would have said, "Stuff 'em...we're gonna go for it".

I'm pleased we actually have a vision rather than rotting away.

We're damned if we do and damned if we don't, so let's jus do. Positive approach by Summers, and we need this kind of boldness. Everyone expects or wants us to go and cower in the corner while they take pot shots at us. Stuff 'em! Stand up and move forward!

God, I want to believe, just once, to feel the complete jubilation of winning the premiership, I'll ball like a baby, because like all here, I have waited far too long.

2019 or 2020 - it can be done.

Assume GWS will be basically unbeatable between 20017-18 and will battle v GC and maybe even Melbourne (I know I know its unthinkable).

But if Acres/Dunstan/Billings are all decent and we get another 4-6 gun players via the draft in the next 2 years. It can be done!

Me too! I wanted us to win when I was young and restless and stupid. Stay out all week in celebration where no one, not relatives, nor employer, nor the police would know where to find you. At the current pace, my mates and I will be in the "Twilight Years Maximum Security Home For The Aged", sucking two fruits and custard through a straw, with a crocheted blanket over our laps. Hurry up and win one, will you!

I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

I hope St Kilda supporters weren't laughing after the Saints released their vision.

Today i experienced plenty of non St Kilda supporters having a chuckle at the Saints optimism. I was even asked if St Kilda had won a flag in my lifetime.

I won't believe it until i see the victory lap at the G on the last Saturday in September.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I love the fact that the club isn't feeding us any BS and are being perfectly reasonable. In my mind, it's an excellent sales pitch to people who haven't yet signed up to witness the makings of the glory days which (hopefully) will commence a few years down the track.

Let them laugh it up. Doesn't seem unrealistic to aim for a flag in 5-6 years at all. Why the hell shouldn't the club be optimistic? Should they forecast doom and gloom instead?

I think it is a real possibility, especially if 16 clubs decide to withdraw from the competition.
