Unsung Heroes
Great games by both Curren and Saunders. Worked really hard shutting down Treloar and Coniglio. Those two are their engine room and nearly all their possessions were under immense pressure. Look at their tackle count.
Don't underestimate the job that Gwilt and Dempster did in the last 5 minutes. Sometimes people look at their mistakes, they were both very good at the end.

Re: Unsung Heroes
Yes - goes unnoticed but both did the hard in and under work.
Also like Dunstan in the first half, couldn't get near it but laid 5 tackles and really made his presence felt.
I love the attitude and 1%'s when things aren't going their way

Re: Unsung Heroes
Am looking forward to focusing on them in the replay.
I'm not the best judge on the ground but thought to myself on the way home that I didn't notice them a great deal during the match which is odd because I really really rate them both

Re: Unsung Heroes
best thing is that they will only get better. Also both have the ability to hurt on the scoreboard.
Love the tackling and run given by the boys. Watch port today and see where richo will take us. Out run and out tackle them. Exciting.
Also liked delaneys game. Good body work.

Re: Unsung Heroes
Farren RAY never gets plaudence when he plays well and he has been great in our first too games. Very much an under appreciated player when going well !

Absolutely. To think we tried to trade him a couple of seasons ago, was out of the team at times last year. Can't see him losing his place any time soon.WinnersOnly wrote:Farren RAY never gets plaudence when he plays well and he has been great in our first too games. The issue though with Farren is that he is an enigma. Sooooo smooth and classy in everything he does. Moving, marking, kicking... till one sees where his kicks end up...
(He's courageous too, which just further adds to the conundrum. )
It's Dave, man. Will you open up? I got the stuff with me! -------Who?

I can't find a dictionary that says plaudence is a word ?WinnersOnly wrote:Farren RAY never gets plaudence when he plays well and he has been great in our first too games. Very much an under appreciated player when going well !
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Unsung Heroes
Look, I like Faz and he can play really well, last week was a good example. But you cannot seriously think that was a good game. His has the full package of skills, great kick, good overhead, gets the footy. It's a shame that his decision making can be so poor. In the 2nd and 3rd qtrs, every time he touched it, it went to the opposition. He wasn't the Lone Ranger there though - all over the ground we were kicking blind, in hope. And it played into their hands.WinnersOnly wrote:Farren RAY never gets plaudence when he plays well and he has been great in our first too games. Re: Unsung Heroes
Farren gets the ball a lot under pressure because he has no fear so at times his kicking will be exposed ,a couple of great games to start off with by the Faz!And loved Curren and Saunders games. Also thought wright did some good things and loved Dempster in those final 10 mins was in everything!

Correct there Paddlepop........... often that is the case...... the effort taken to 'win' the ball in pressure situations often puts his kicking under pressure.

Re: Unsung Heroes
Saunders is a beauty I see him developing into a Joel Selwood type. He takes the game on and runs in straight lines- even straight at the opposition.
Gwilt and Dempster were outstanding and Gwilt looked released from his shackles now we have Delaney there to do the KP role.
Dempster is just a super quiet achiever. I commented that he seems to have taken until Scott Watters mentally unshackled him to realise he could be an attacking player. His late career form has been brilliant.
Lots wanted him retired by the end of the year but he is like Blake- a guy who does what ever needs doing to a standard that is very solid and understated. Curren doesn't look as flash doing the tagging but he just knuckles down for the team. He's your classic workman like player.
Dunstan is just an old head on a young body type. His ability to just delay getting rid of the ball until there is an option and seeing options in his peripheral vision is outstanding. I thought he was the type that would be good early but possibly never go to elite but I have severely underestimated his skill level and determination. The sky is the limit for him- reminds me of a pre OP Luke Ball.
Eli has that same level of ability to read the play faster than others around him which I believe is the only thing holding Faz back from being a star. He is a GOP with the odd very good game. He is a good money ball choice because he is still a great role player even if he won't win a game off his own work. You need several in every team.
