LTI rookie upgrade for Wright

Post: # 1450633Post Stian »

OK all you Sandy watchers - who is in line for the upgrade?

Do you expect a "like for like" replacement or has a particular player just been so far in front that we just have to take this opportunity to give him a game?

I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Very tough decision between Weller ans Shenton it would seem.

With Armo out this week and Weller playing an inside mid/tagging role the last two weeks - surely he's a shoe-in?

But they may go for Seb Ross as the Armo replacement so Shenton may still be a chance.

I agree Doc, Seb Ross must be rewarded for very good Sandy form. Also they might delay the rookie upgrade until they deserve to get a game in the firsts.

I can't see there being an upgrade in the short term.

Templeton is up for Pierce, who is only listed as four weeks away, so they may just keep Templeton on the senior list.

Shenton and Weller have been our best performed rookies, but like-for-like, Simpkin and Ross would be ahead of them.

From TrueZebras

Mav Weller 17 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 marks
Player Rating: 8.5/10

A tagging role for Weller is his bread and butter. After keeping Leigh Kitchin quiet the week before, he kept Liston Trophy winner Ben Ross to two first half disposals. Weller was moved onto Mitch Hallahan in the second half to restrain his impact and did a solid job.

Cam Shenton is pushing hard for promotion off the rookie list.

Cam Shenton 15 disposals, 2 tackles, 4 marks, 2 goals
Player Rating: 7.5/10

The speedy half-back had another quality game. He had the confidence to take the game on and kicked two important goals.

Maybe but Seb Ross was bog and pushing for a game anyway and Curren has been our main tagger and we also have Jones as a tagger....

We might have too many nuggety slow inside mids already - do we need another?

With Wright and Gilbo out and Roberton out of action - we need some dash of the half back line. Most Sandy watchers have been saying Shenton has been very good for quite some time now.

Are we ever going to elevate Tommy Walsh off the rookie list.

I hear he will be a champion rivalling Carey.

Done a hammy unfortunately, otherwise I'm confident he'd be leading the coleman.

Shenton upgrade - Wright, Roberton, Gilbert & Fisher still out (for the minute)

We've got enough inside muscle with Lenny, Dunstan, Curren, Jones & Steven

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Ironically the Swans have put him on their long term injury list.
As for Wright, if anyone is promoted for him that would mean that Eli will have to go back on to the rookie list in 4 or 5 weeks when Pierce comes back. Surely we'd only promote someone if we were desperately short of fit players or there was somebody bashing the door down.

IF an update it will be Weller IMO to add to midfield. But have been a fan of Shenton from day 1,just reckon he has a x factor about him and we need to have a good look at him this year

Any way good luck to em both, hope they make it

Shenton came to us a half forward from memory, why have we turned him into a half back?

Is he too small for Medium forward?

I don't understand why they are so convinced that Tom C is a tagger, I think Mav will do a better job as a tagger and should be in line for the promotion. Keep Tom in to play his natural game which imo is similar to Armo's and bring in Seb to play through the middle/fwd too. Gears down back to play the Nath Wright role.

So out Armo, Wright, in Ross, Weller. Jack Billings is making it hard to not select him though as well

Reminds me of a Max Rooke Geelong type, who played both forward and back, mainly forward and wasn't overally tall.Maybe playing him down back to learn the trade.Anyway handy to have a swing man like that

Good week to rest Roo ahead of NZ trip?
Hickey To CHF rotate Stanley & Longer through ruck and rest forward try a mid size mobile player in place of Maister.

Reckon Plugger would've jumped on me by now.
Any mention of moving Roo gets him riled up.
