Team v Gold Coast
SAM Dunell's inclusion for Brodie Murdoch on the extended interchange bench is the solitary change to the 25-man squad that was selected for St Kilda's round eight clash against Carlton.
Terry Milera, who hasn't played a senior game this season but has demonstrated consistent form in the VFL, and Josh Saunders, have both been retained after the small forwards were named as the emergencies last weekend.

Does anyone read anything into Gwilt and Steven being on the extended bench?
The coach has suggested he will leave it up to Jack whether he plays or not this week and the the option is open for Jack to take the week off...

Where's the team listing?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Re: Team v Gold Coast
They confused themselves by talking about Murdoch being in last week's squad. They then listed him as an out despite the fact that he wasn't in.

By the sound of Alan Richardson's press conference today, Steven will play, Gwilt will not.Con Gorozidis wrote:Does anyone read anything into Gwilt and Steven being on the extended bench?

Re: Team v Gold Coast
Im not sure that Acres and Shenton can play as listed in the backline -or- hopefully not at the same time
so I would expect Curren to be back down there
I thought I read that Roberton has had some reasonable games ?

Another injury.
Our injuries are stacking up big time.
Reminds me of the good old days when GT cost us at least one flag because of his dictatorial style of running everything and not getting the players properly fit enough.
What is out excuse for this horrific run of injuries in 2014?

Re: Team v Gold Coast
I thought AR said Steven needed a rest due to lack of preseason prep? Looking at Jack over the last few weeks he is definitely off the pace. I expect he wont play either. I am worried that the medical/ fitness staff are rushing these guys in way to early after injury in the hope that they can get experience on the field.Beno88 wrote:By the sound of Alan Richardson's press conference today, Steven will play, Gwilt will not.Con Gorozidis wrote:Does anyone read anything into Gwilt and Steven being on the extended bench?

Re: Team v Gold Coast
Id lke to see Tom Simpkin given a fighters chance at saving/continuing his AFL career.
Would be very harsh if he only gets 1 game all year v Hawks with 30 million clean inside 50s where defenders were relegated to ball watchers and the midfield were witches hats.

No idea, but hard training + young bodies would be likely to lead to its share of injuries.NeXtmess-stringer wrote:What is out excuse for this horrific run of injuries in 2014?
Re: Team v Gold Coast
Gilbert, Fisher, Gwilt, Armitage, Hickey... Not that young
A lot of injuries just flat out unlucky...
And god that's a bad post about GT... Very inaccurate .... He left player conditioning to Craig Starcevich ... He had zero to do with player conditioning...

Re: Team v Gold Coast
And yet they persist with the panicmerchant CJ.
Sure he works hard and gives 110%.
But his quality ruins his quantity!
Imagine a postman who is not afraid to deliver in the tough suburbs.
But when the vicious dogs come out, and the gangs of young hooligans approach,
he drops the letters at the wrong houses,
delivers credit cards to the wrong addresses;
well then,
sadly his super work ethic means jack.
And his workmates have to follow up and clean up the mistakes.
YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT

Young bodies? Most of the injured personnel are seniors aren't they? Armitage, TDL, Fisher, Gilbert, Geary, Gwilt. The only young bodies (comparatively) are Hickey, Templeton, and Wright.bergholt wrote:No idea, but hard training + young bodies would be likely to lead to its share of injuries.NeXtmess-stringer wrote:What is out excuse for this horrific run of injuries in 2014?
I like seeing a team full of untried youngsters, if we can't be competitive, we might as well enjoy some of the talent that we've picked up as long as we don't thrash them into the ground. I'm particularly happy that guys such as Shenton, Milera and Dunnel getting chances. We have to make decisions on players like these this year so they can't go hiding in the VFL and then emerge at the end of the season as 'potential stars' - now or never, and for that reason I agree with Con; I'd like to see Simpkin and Roberton get games. If they can't break into this team, there's no place for them at this club, it's not a team full of experienced stars that they are trying to break into like it was in the noughties.
I hope they all make it, there's not one player I'd be glad to see the back of - unlike days of yore - but the reality is that some will be cut, and our list manager isn't afraid to get snipping. If they make it at another club, so be it, (how's Tom Lynch and Jamie Cripps doing these days? I don't follow AFL enough to bother finding out), but we can't afford to keep waiting and hoping. We are building from the foundations up and if I was AR I'd be spending all my time working on disposal effectiveness because it sounds like that it quite low across the board. That is a fundamental non-negotiable and any player who keeps putting the team in jeopardy with poor decision making or disposal should be training on improving that and if they can't they should be cut.
I suppose these two paragraphs might conflict with each other, but that's what training is for. I suppose getting games into the untried players is most important but I'm hoping AR and his team will discover a good balance between blooding these guys and giving them the right environments to improve.

Would understand if they were all soft tissue but curious what the club could do about jacks foot, armos lacerated knee, geary and eli's broken arms. Fishers body was known to be close to being shot.
Hickeys and gilbos injuries seem to the be only ones they could have perhaps had done better on but this is a hindsight call with a lack of knowledge on our behalf.
I personally would have rested roo and looked at lee in a new forward line. Time for the others to stand up and demand the ball.
