Wakelin and Dillon gone
New St Kilda chief executive Matt Finnis has overhauled the club's executive weeks after starting at the club, axing the roles of the club's chief operating officer Terry Dillon and general manager of commercial operations Shane Wakelin.
Finnis has hired Christine Finnegan from the Melbourne Rebels as the new chief commercial operations officer, essentially replacing the two roles with one.

Looks like a bit more professionalism at the top level of the club now- we must have dropped the business ball a bit over the past few years.

Good luck to Christine. Finnis obviously wanted her from working with her in the past.

They have not been sacked, we have had to advise them that those roles won't be continuing. They will be made redundant but they have stayed on in the interim."
Coincidentally the club's merchandise manager, Dale Christie, resigned from the club on Friday,

Re: Wakelin and Dillon gone
Very hard for any of us to make a judgment call from the outside. These positions are truly 'behind the scenes'. But this at least looks like we are changing things up and actively looking to fix the mess.
If the status quo had remained unchanged it would have been odd seeing as we are failing off the field.

I'd like to know what the redundancies will cost us. I assume Dillon was on big $$$ so even factoring in the payouts we may be in front in a year's time. Hopefully the new woman's role is heavily incentive based remuneration wise.

What redundancies? They haven't been retrenched, they have been sacked. Would get 4 weeks and their entitlements. If on contract may not even get thatsaintspremiers wrote:I'd like to know what the redundancies will cost us. talk that our current debt could blow out by a further 4 million this year to approx. 10 million!!
very very concerning if true.

Re: Wakelin and Dillon gone
We will be going through some really tough times over the next few years with low crowds costing us money, hard work to get good paying sponsors etc. If we had a flag to tide us over people will be a lot more chilled about this rebuilding time. But some non-hardcore supporters will be sick of the AFL support that Brisbane, Sydney, GC and GWS are getting to get premierships and no longer want to give their dollars to the AFL. We have to be ambitious and think outside the square as much as possible before we rise again.chook23 wrote:heard a little re this on SEN -the run home

Terry seemed a nice guy and worked hard for the club.
And Wakes did a good job with the sponsors.
I wish them both well.

Women can do more than one thing at once, including reading a Melways!
And if this lady can bring us back towards the Junction Oval, the better off we'll be.
The stadium deal is crippling this football club and that's unlikely to change in the immediate future.

How does training at the JO help the stadium deal. Actually how does it help in any way? people arent going to our games because we are no good. people arent members because we are no good. Sponsors havent joined us because of all the bad opublicity, real or unreal. maybe supporters i speak to are different but i havent heard one say im not joining the saints because they train in Seaford. if they did I would ask the question that is most obvious. Why?

The AFL will bail us out the same way they'd bail out any club. They need 18 teams for the broadcast rights deal they've already sold.
Supporters acting about the financial position of the club is a complete waste of energy.
If you're really worried, lobby for a Cairns game or two and another NZ game. That would add more than $1m to the bottom line, or the equivalent of 5000+ full-priced memberships.

Re: Wakelin and Dillon gone
Actually that's a fallacy. Scientific testing proves that if anyone, male or female, attempts to perform more than one task at a time the quality of their output on both tasks declines significantly. There was no difference in comptency level apparent between genders. The complexity of the tasks involved is also a factor, however a lot of the testing came about as a result of researching the effects of using mobile phones whilst operating a motor vehicle.ozrulestrace wrote:Women can do more than one thing at once, including reading a Melways!
The differences that are most notable between the genders are females seemingly having better peripheral vision and males having generally superior spatial abilities. Both are thought to be based in our biological evolution with spatial skills aiding males ability to hunt and inferior peripheral vision enabling them to focus on their prey with less distraction. It's also a theory that better peripheral vision would better enable a female to protect an infant.
Spatial skills (or lack thereof) is believed to be the reason for the lack of female commercial airline pilots. There is a signficant amount of spatial skill testing required for the profession and something like 97% of females cannot pass the standard required (don't quote me on the percentage but it is certainly in the nineties). Spatial skills is also thought to account for the differing attraction to ball sports between young boys and girls.
Females also have a more developed sense of taste for sweet things, the theory being that this would have evolved to better enable them to test food (particularly fruits etc) for ripeness and suitability to feed to their young.

A good job with the sponsors? How many did he bring on? To me, Wakelin was the Robbie Kearns of the Saints, drinking "scooners" with corporates talking about his time on the field.Enrico_Misso wrote:Terry seemed a nice guy and worked hard for the club.

Dillon was brought on board to clean up the salary cap mess left by Nettlefold. Hopefully someone's across this when he's gone.

Re: Wakelin and Dillon gone
So he knows Christine from a previous time working together .. Is this a jobs for the boys (or girls in this circumstance ??). I hope she does well but seems a bit stiff on Dillon after he was left to hold it together when Netters decided to go.

Wakes ran and/or was the MC at many of the sponsor events - did a good job and because of his background was a very interesting speaker.
