The importance of the ruck

Post: # 1482576Post Jaz »

I'm guessing Ross learnt a very hard lesson today, Ruckmen can win matches.

I'm not saying Longer was best on ground, but for the first time in(oh forget it, I'm too excited to work out when) we dominated hit-outs and as a result centre clearances and when you dominate centre clearances the whole game is easier.

As a result:
* Our forward line looked amazing - because we won the clearances we actually had time to size up and honour leads.
* Our backline looked strong - Probably the same amount of goals per entry as other weeks.
* Our defensive pressure was up - instead of chasing players at every stoppage we were having the ball hit to us; so when the time came that we lost the hit-out or missed getting the ball we had the energy to lay a tackle and put pressure on.

Whilst I say I guess Ross learnt a lesson today I really hope he didn't :).

As an aside, we have been crying out for 3 tall forwards for so long, thank god it work when we finally had it.
