Tom Harley - a true knob
On Game Day Today Harley criticised Longer pointing to the scoreboard yesterday saying you don't do that if you are St Kilda and have only won four games for the year.
You are totally entitled to do this to shove it up your opponent - totally legit and a classic thing to do regardless of how you are travelling season wise.
I hate Tom Harley. He struggles to say anything positive about St Kilda ever but is an apologist for everyone else. Never insightful and is just plain odd.
Clarkson had it right about him.
Harley has been dirty on us ever since we spoiled their 2010 finals campaign.
He's a filthy Geelong knob and should not be on the telly.

He's entitled to his opinion but that doesn't make it right. I thought the Longer gesture was priceless - old school at it's best.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
In fact, aren't you encouraged to point to the scoreboard if your in a tussle as a way of getting 'one up' without fighting?! Harley is nearly in Luke Darcy category as far as knobness is concerned..millarsaint wrote:On Game Day Today Harley criticised Longer pointing to the scoreboard yesterday saying you don't do that if you are St Kilda and have only won four games for the year.

Irrespective of the Longer incident, Tom Harley somehow makes Luke Darcy look creative and witty.millarsaint wrote:On Game Day Today Harley criticised Longer pointing to the scoreboard yesterday saying you don't do that if you are St Kilda and have only won four games for the year.

Both are probably a good reason why channel 7 and the football is held with such disrespect

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
Funny to see.
But not really a good look.
The Freo guy might well have pointed to the ladder as a good comeback.
But I think Richo will have a quiet word and tell Billy to "curb his enthusiasm".
I think we can do without building an arrogant reputation.

I think this is correct. Had a laugh, and Billy was probably just fired up after a scuffle, but unlike Fremantle who decided to rest players, we should respect the opposition.

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
It was old school an it was funny and being on the bottom of the ladder is what makes it so good - that kind of timing and irony probably passes right over the head of a bloke like Harley who is like a shiny robot - as for the Freo guy pointing to the ladder he would have needed to have a copy of it in his shorts to get the timing right which would have been very funny but might not have had the same impact as pointing to the scoreboard.Enrico_Misso wrote:Funny to see.

If Richo has a quiet word - I think he'll be saying keep playing with that passion and you have a future in the AFL

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
Geez, a bit of lighthearted on field banter, hardly worthy of criticism. You think they don't trash talk 50 times worse on the field than pointing at the scoreboard?
Comical
Regarding Harley also, typical ch7 commentator, boring, afl apologist

For a team that's lost 11 straight it's a good valve release. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Our boys have done it tough for 3 months and a bit of exuberance is fine. Who gives a stuff of it's not the done thing. No harm was done, it's not racist sexist or anything nasty.

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
Personally, I never like to see players being arrogant. In this case however , I think it was a case more of standing up after so many belts to the body, rather than "arrogance" I'm sure Tom Harley will be well acquainted with the "arrogance" of footballers having played alongside Scarllett and Stevie J! I think Billy was just standing up for himself, and his club.
St Kilda forever ( God help me)

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
Perhaps Tom Harley is a little humorless. I wouldn't go as far as saying Luke Darcy is better though. Mind you, the standard of sportscasting in the AFL these days is an effing travesty. One of the main reasons I now hardly ever watch it on TV.

Even my wife hates Darcy - we have all the right to give it to Freo - we have been flogging them for ten years, they steal our coach, our full-back and moan to the AFL two days after a match to get two points, which was pointless to them anyway. Note to Harley: just because you choke against those flogs, doesn't mean we do.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Re: Tom Harley - a true knob
Given that nobody (including Harley) knows what was said to Longer I find it difficult to understand why Harley has chosen to chastise Longer over this?
Even more so when I don't believe he felt the need to publicly castigate his 'great mate' Scarlett after the 2008 QF when he abused Banger.

It was the right situation and Billy made most of the opportunity presented - purely a reflex response. It looked and must have felt great to Billy. No harm done.

If the Freo player had mentioned the ladder an easy comeback would have been to note Freo just fell down it.

You are only as good as your last game and right now, Freo are terrible.
Funniest thing on a footy field since Fraser Gehrig.

Be kind to clarky449, his hero just coached his team to a 10 goal loss against a team coming last, he is shattered
