Was it common knowledge that Simon McPhee wasn't continuing next year??

Is he still involved at St Kilda in any form (Development Coach etc) or is he gone??

Zebras GM John Mennie said Hudson was a popular and respected figure at the club and Sandy were pleased to have him.

“A very good appointment,’’ he said. “Paul’s done some work with the Sandringham boys and he’s well liked by the players, the other coaches and the staff.

“He’ll bring a lot of skills to the club to help us move forward and play finals again next year.’’

Mennie and Zebras president Danny Corcoran had lunch with Hudson on Monday.

“He’s got some ideas. He’ll do a few things differently, but it will be small stuff,’’ Mennie said.

Hudson got his start in coaching at Gippsland Power in 2005 and in his first season took the club to its first TAC Cup premiership. Stints followed at Brisbane and Collingwood. He hooked up with the Saints in 2011.

LIVE suburban football will return to Channel Seven in Melbourne with the network confirmed as the VFL's new free-to-air broadcaster.

Under the two-year contract Seven will broadcast the 'match of the round' live every week as well as most VFL finals and the Grand Final.

It's understood the games will be shown on the network's main channel, most likely as a lead in to either Saturday or Sunday afternoon AFL broadcasts.

Pity! Now we'll have to put up with ads and crappy commentary. What will Phil do now? He's only got violence against women left, with no outlet.

Well Done Sandy and CJ

great to see some experienced players choosing to play VFL

The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of former Saint Clinton Jones
25/11/2014

The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of former Saint Clinton Jones for the 2015 VFL Season.

A relentless midfielder, Jones was picked at No.9 in the 2007 AFL Rookie Draft from South Fremantle following back to back Best & Fairest awards there. Clint played 149 senior games for the Saints, including three AFL grand final appearances from 2007-2014.

The 30-year-olds leadership, experience and knowledge will provide valuable insight both on and off the field for the young Sandringham listed players. Jones was keenly sought after by several clubs after he was delisted from the Saints so Sandringham are very happy to have him commit to the club for the 2015 season.

Dennis-Lane will look to bring leadership to a young Sandringham side after taking on that challenge in 2014.

“Towards the end of season ’14 I really enjoyed taking more responsibility in the forward line and passing on my thoughts of the game onto the group,” said Dennis-Lane on his 2014 season with St Kilda.

Dennis-Lane will work as a development coach to mentor the young Sandringham players under new senior coach Paul Hudson.

Hudson was an assistant to Simon McPhee in 2014 and Dennis-Lane is excited to work with a familiar face.

“Paul is one of the most enthusiastic and passionate people I know,” said Dennis-Lane.

“I’m very proud of what I was able to achieve at the Saints. At one point it looked highly likely that I wouldn’t even get drafted. I was lucky enough to play with some of the clubs greatest ever players and got the opportunity to play in 11 finals matches including the three grand finals. But it certainly didn’t come easy,” Jones told True Zebras.

“When I first arrived at St Kilda, I had to work very hard on the defensive side of my game after being told I was to too offensive. This eventually led to me becoming a tagger. I’m extremely grateful for my time at St Kilda and what we were able to achieve.”

Following a playing career that spanned 245 games and yielded 479 goals, Hudson turned his attention to coaching at the Brisbane Lions, Collingwood and TAC Cup team Gippsland Power.

Throughout each of these roles, the 44-year-old committed to a style of coaching that is not only invigorating and wholehearted, but also hands-on.

“There are some challenges being a coach,” he said.

“You’ve got to be a psychologist, a mentor, a coach, a father, a tactician and possess excellent managerial skills… I’m genuinely excited.”

Hudson’s standard week sees him spending Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at St Kilda from 7am-3pm, before driving to Trevor Barker Beach Oval to mentor the Sandringham-listed players. On these days, he won’t get home until at least 9.30pm.

This commitment is one insight to Hudson’s thirst for success and given his development coach background, his desire to rapidly improve the players he looks after.

“It has been great to have a regular venue to come to train at over a pre-season,” Embling told True Zebras.

“This allows the team to become more familiar with the surroundings at TBBO especially the ever present wind.”

The club has also been completing some weight sessions at Linen House Oval, home of AFL affiliate team St Kilda. Strength and Conditioning coach Marcus Krygger has had a major influence in preseason training.

“Marcus Krygger has engineered a program which has challenged and pushed the playing group. He is excellent at what he does and is very well respected by all people associated with the club.”

The club has recently returned from a week long camp at Portsea and they are completing three night sessions a week with a Saturday morning session also included.

This preseason has seen a few different faces on the training ground after the club’s 47-point semi final defeat to Port Melbourne.

Paul Hudson is now the senior coach after the well-respected Simon McPhee sought out Development Coaching responsibilities with the St Kilda Football Club.

“Simon was fantastic in all of aspects of his work over the last three years. His ability to get the best out of people is a massive strength which he possesses,” said Embling about his mentor.

“Huddo has been great since coming on board. His energy which he brings to the role has been fantastic to date.”
