Hawkins goal?
His side on set shot from the Gehrig-chair pocket in Q2 looked like a point from my vantage.
A few of our players looked a bit bemused.
Suspiciously it was the ONLY goal for the game that wasn't replayed at the ground.
What did others think?
Or am I still bearing a grudge from you know what?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Yes!
It clearly curled to the left of the left goal post for mine.
Replay didn't happen at the game, they pulled it for some reason.

Re: Hawkins goal?
Didn't the AFL set up a system to prevent false goals being scored as a result of the Hawkins "goal" costing us a Grand Final?
So why wasn't it used tonight?
I thought some of our players looked bemused.
Do we have right to challenge or is it only when the umpire is uncertain?
And why no replay at the ground, if there was the crowd would have picked it up and booed perhaps causing a review?
So basically the goal review system has failed the Hawkins test again and cost us another game?
(At least we have killed their finals campaign).

They're never going to get a result from the decision review on those high curling kicks.

Re: Hawkins goal?
From my position the ball appeared to curve, but it was high, and I couldn't judge if it was before or after it passed the goal line. I just trusted the goal umpire to make the correct decision as I doubt a replay would have helped.

Re: Hawkins goal?
Isnt every goal reviewed during the break any way.
Think more the 6 frees to 2 in first quarter and 2 of them were goals for geelong was more the problem.
we were all over them then cheap frees in front of goal.

Re: Hawkins goal?
I was watching another game yesterday(only one on tv) and the comment made was that all goals are reviewed while the ball goes back to the centre.
Don't know if this is true or not.

Yes it is certainly supposed to happen. Those ones are nearly impossible to overturn.

Every goal is reviewed but you would need the perfect camera angle to overturn those ones. Keep going though.

Re: Hawkins goal?
so if its called a goal
and no review can overturn it
why would you review something if the decision can not be over turned?
hence
surely every goal is not reviewed?

If thats the way you think then fine. Unless they review it they cant see if the camera angle is good enough or not. Probably a little hard to comprehend.

i asked the question pluggs
hence the ??
im wondering what the go is and how the review actually works
I said they check every goal. They check the camera angles. Im not sure I can say anymore than that. Unfortunately those type of goals are hard to overturn. Doesn't mean they aren't checked.

Re: Hawkins goal?
but you said once its a goal it cant be overturned
so why bother checking the review?
what are we looking for, to tell everyone watching telly that it was actually a point but the review cant overturn a goal so it was pretty much a waste of time looking at the camera angles because they cant do anything anyway but they wanted people at home to know what the decision shouldve been
makes sense i guess

It can be overturned but its usually impossible with the camera angles. Doesn't mean you don't check because you may fluke the right camera angle.
