The three ins
Acres burst out of the centre to roo ..unbelievable.
Templeton hits the post last quarter ..damn that would have been a handy goal.
Lee , made some big mistakes but his size down back looks good for us going forward

Re: The three ins
Lee started poorly but was very good at the end. A rock in defence.
Really pleased and proud with his game

Re: The three ins
Lee struggled under pressure, hope he gets it under control.
Acres burst was great but he needs to find more of it, you could see him around the packs but looked like he didn't know where to go for the receive.
Templeton was very quiet until the 4th, don't know how often he was used up the ground so ill let him off. Think he's still to skinny at this stage. AFL lists him at 73kg at 183 cm. I'm 2cm shorter and at that weight and people still call me a rake and I don't workout.

Re: The three ins
Probably all three were a bit off the pace which is natural from guys coming in without much AFL experience. The step from VFL in pace and time and skill must be a shock. But plenty of upside in all of them. You don't many better experiences of pressure and tension and playing through exhaustion than a game like today.

Re: The three ins
Lee still playing at VFL level. Needs 4 games at least to get comfortable with the pace at elite level. Promising.
Acres good.
Eli has the X factor.
All three need at least one full month to be able to get used to the game at AFL level to get an accurate gauge of where they are at. It is safe to say though, that all three played a part in the team's positive performance today.

Re: The three ins
Overall I thought Lee was good. A few times he got caught out as played at VFL pace and not AFL.
I thought he was the best of the 3 brought in.
Acres good at times.

"In his first senior game in 663 days, Tom Lee was dependable down back showing his ability in a defensive key post. The West Australian, who has undergone a transformation in the VFL across the last 12 months, was damaging with his ball use from 19 possessions and read the ball well to intercept plenty of Hawthorn forays forward."

The key thing is his best footy was in the second half when all was at stakeGriggsy wrote:Hmmm not sure if uncontested clangers make you dependable, his 2nd half was good.

Re: The three ins
Thought Tom was a revelation for us down back once he got a grasp on the game plan. Good mark, (generally) very good kick and got plenty of the ball. Valuable contributor who assures us of some depth.

First game up, pretty good. But what's with all the bandages? Doesn't instill confidence in the leg.Trev from the Bush wrote:Thought Tom was a revelation for us down back once he got a grasp on the game plan. Blake can be good on the attack, but panics under pressure when tackled.
Re: The three ins
Just saw acres was 57% time on ground. So his numbers actually scale well with 13 disposals and 6 contested possessions.
Wonder what the reason is, not fit or quick enough to run through th Hawks press? Or something else, once he gets to 80% time we will see some good numbers.

Re: The three ins
Tommy Lee provided the stability we need down back. Most of his kicks were excellent.
He'll get better with every game.
Pretty sure he's finally made it!

Re: The three ins
Anyone else think Lee looks a lot bigger. I saw him in a preseason game and he looked same as last i saw him, but yesterday he looked a lot bigger. I had him penciled in as back up for a Roberton type, but maybe he might fill the whole left by Fisher. Worth persisting with

When Fish and Sean Dempster retire, perhaps a back 6 of :Long Term Injury wrote:Anyone else think Lee looks a lot bigger. Re: The three ins
Yeah, not bad, hopefully with some of the new guys we recruited this year providing a bit of run as well, rice and white. BTW i forgot White's name and had a quick look at the website, check out the photo of him and Rice, they obviously pump all the money into the footy department rather than on a photoshop wiz. Long may it continue!st.byron wrote:When Fish and Sean Dempster retire, perhaps a back 6 of :Long Term Injury wrote:Anyone else think Lee looks a lot bigger. Re: The three ins
Lee just needs game time and to feel he belongs at this level. Highly skilled for a big guy.
Acres is a potential star. Has a way to go, but that burst out of the centre and long kick to Rooey was something to behold. Important that we persevere as his upside is potentially huge. Big bodied and has a knack for reading the play

Re: The three ins
I will be honest and disclose my bias here, I have met Tommy Lee at an Auskick clinic and was impressed with him as a person (and Seb Ross played kick to kick with my kid too, just quietly), but anyway, I would like to see all three get a full month at least to get used to the pace at the highest level. If you have blokes on your list you are honour bound to give them a fair go in my opinion. Acres is going to make it, Lee has to make it - we used a high draft pick to snare him from WA, and he will be a massive asset this year with Jake out for the season and Hugh not quite ready. Remember, Fisher and Dempster will probably both retire at the end of the year.
Eli is the X factor of the group - but he needs the opportunity to get used to the pressure at AFL level. At least with Freeman conditioning in the VFL seconds and Carlisle suspended we can see what these guys have too offer. I would like to see Delaney come in too if form warrants, to play on some of the gorilla forwards this year.
