Acres for rising star
Surely Blake Acres should get the rising star nomination this week.
He was very close to best on ground not just best young player.
28 disposals , 2 goals and goal assists as well as tackles makes a very impressive game.

Re: Acres for rising star
How good is he? No doubt that was his best game. Maybe a coming of age? You'd want to say he's played himself into the side for the rest of the year and should get a game every week barring injury.longtimesaint wrote:Surely Blake Acres should get the rising star nomination this week.

He was sensational. He's tall and fast and plays in the style of a Bontempelli. Could be even better.
I was always impressed with Acres, glad we recruited him and hoped he would deliver.
Acres is just the kind of midfielder we need.
Another guy whose game was outstanding, one Jack Sinclair. Seriously where did he come from? Totally unheralded draft wise but love the way he goes about it.

Judging by the moist loins of most commentators Petracca is a certainty.

Acres has some serious talent, but I find his kicking troublesome. He does tend to turn it over and shank it quite a bit. I hope he can improve this part of his game and he will be fantastic.

Sinclair has been really good since he came as a rookie when completely overlooked in the draft.damienc wrote:How good is he? No doubt that was his best game. Maybe a coming of age? Apparently it was Jack Billings who told the Saints to rookie Sinclair as Billings had played with him in junior level.
Billings had said that he couldn't understand how Sinclair wasn't drafted as he knew how good he was.

Sinclair is a star and we all know the story but he is not eligible for Rising Star this year on two grounds:longtimesaint wrote:Sinclair has been really good since he came as a rookie when completely overlooked in the draft.damienc wrote:How good is he? 1. He is too old - he turned 21 before the start of the season.
2. He has played too many games.

Re: Acres for rising star
GWS dont have anyone eligible currently playing. Jacob Hopper still yet to debut (wont be long).BigMart wrote:Probably go to Petracca or a GWS first rounder?
I will spew if it goes to Petracca.
Petracca - 16 disposals, 5 clangers, 5 tackles, 0 goals, 3 behinds
Acres - 28 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 goals, 1 behind
Acres still young. Will be inconsistent for a few years like all of our kids but once he is 22 and gets past 50 games (2018) he could be an absolute beast.
Sportsbet odds for Acres went from $51 to $16 today. Not that I encourage gambling. It is a mugs game.

1. DOB 1/10/1995
Counting on my fingers and toes reveals he turned 20 in 2015
2. He played 3 games in 2014, and 7 last year.
Ergo, he is eligible.
The betting agencies have odds for him to win the Rising Star, and they can't all be wrong.

So not sure what you have been smoking but you are wrong three times. Wrong dob. Wrong about games played. Wrong about the betting agencies.
He is most definitely NOT eligible.

Sinclair is NOT eligible but it's only by games played, not age. The cut off date is not the start of the season, it is January 1st and he didn't turn 21 until February.Con Gorozidis wrote:1. I think Wellard Saint was actually looking at Acres. So maybe he was only wrong once, although he got the birthdate wrong as well.

So sinclair sneaks in on age but clearly out on games played. Also he is definitely not listed with sportsbet:
http://www.sportsbet.com.au/betting/aus ... ising-star
But maybe wellard was indeed referring to BA and was simply a few days off with the dob.
Regardless - Sinclair is not eligible and Blacres is a shoe-in for this week's nomination.

I reckon Jack Steele would be the only threat from that list. Based on a few good performances in a row.
