The Armitage Tank Barrages Through Ro$$y's Press n' Flood
Superb leadership and performance by Armo. For mine, the most instrumental in manufacturing us a win today. BOG - all the way!
I loved his no nonsense approach, particularly in that final quarter. We just started to show some real drive out of the middle. Armo really sparked that engine room to really fire on all cylinders. He was just so important in getting the other mids and on-ballers to start running in numbers. I honestly thought we were getting hook, line, sinker, sucked right into Lyon's old plan. Thank heavens for the ingenuity of some the more senior players to show we were above a team who'd get dragged down to a below par level.

Lyon wouldn't be able to plan for Armo, wasn't familiar with him

Lyon was like 'who is this Daniel Armfield bloke?'SainterK wrote:Lyon wouldn't be able to plan for Armo, wasn't familiar with him
Lyon was too busy with 'space fillers' like Eddy.

Leigh Matthews couldn't find a vote for him.

I'm almost coming to the conclusion that Leigh Matthews needs to be put out to pasture.8856brother wrote:Leigh Matthews couldn't find a vote for him.

Well he insisted on Voss as coach and then insisted on Leppa. So I dont think he should get a third crack at it. He will probably choose J Brown as coach.Sainternist wrote:I'm almost coming to the conclusion that Leigh Matthews needs to be put out to pasture.8856brother wrote:Leigh Matthews couldn't find a vote for him.

Yeah he only started to become a regular senior player in 2011. This begs the question why he didn't take Luke Ball's spot in the team directly after Ball parted ways with us. Would have been handy in our 2010 finals campaign.Saintmatt wrote:ThisSainterK wrote:Lyon wouldn't be able to plan for Armo, wasn't familiar with him

Or 2009 when he was BOG as a 21yo 3 weeks before the finals then a week later followed it up with a lazy 13 tackles
His non selection in 09/10 cost us a flag imo
Said it then... Say it still
He is still on the list, in the leadership group, runner up b&f, AA squad of 40... Was Runner Up VFL b&f in 2009 playing 13 games... It wasn't as if he found ability all of a sudden... He was our first round pick (9) an AA U18 and had a ready made body having played in a senior QAFL game at 15 a premiership and was the u21 player of the year at 17
Who the hell wasn't he selected
It's bizarre
Glad he reminded Ross of his talent... He had 20% more ability and toughness than a few running around in those GFs

There was also kid by the name of Jack Steven who was bashing on the selector's door just as loudly, only to be ignored by RL and his yes men!!Con Gorozidis wrote:Lyon was like 'who is this Daniel Armfield bloke?'SainterK wrote:Lyon wouldn't be able to plan for Armo, wasn't familiar with him
Lyon was too busy with 'space fillers' like Eddy.
All the while we had blokes like Eddy and McQualter getting s*** numbers week in and week out continuing to get games!!!

Jack should have walked in the side in 2010

In defence of the deluded Lyin, we don't know how Armo as a youngster would've stood up to finals pressure but I agree he should've been kept on at least for the first final to see how he could handle itBigMart wrote:Or 2009 when he was BOG as a 21yo 3 weeks before the finals then a week later followed it up with a lazy 13 tackles

It's a curious hypothetical on how he would have coped in the finals. 2010 would have been the perfect time to elevate him. Would have filled the hole Luke Ball left perfectly. I'd go as far as saying he's just as good as Ball, if not better. I reckon he would have risen to the occasion. He's got ice in his veins and has a tough tank. Considering all the duds Ross insisted on selecting in 2009-10, he was really stiff not to be selected on a regular basis. I remember thinking to myself in 2011, how the bloody he didn't get a game in those previous years. Ross seemed to really lack vision for younger players.
