Credit where due
I know I'm a little biased here but a great job done by the coaching staff etc tonight. It's not easy getting the players bodies and minds right after a bye, but they were on and ready to go.
We,ll look back at that game in the future and realise just how important the self belief was.
Boys are very happy.
Well done Richo.

Alternatively we were fresh, whilst the Cats were probably a bit tired and hanging out for their week off.

You can be as 'biased' as you wish 'tony74'. I read recently that Teams coming off the bye don't often win - can't recall what the stats were.tony74 wrote:I know I'm a little biased here but a great job done by the coaching staff etc tonight. Interesting move in the third when the cats were on a roll- Kingsley came down to the bench and he and Joey were constantly gesturing to players to switch when the match ups must have seemed off.

Carlton were the only team to win off the bye last year according to the AFL site...that's 1 out of 18.loris wrote: I read recently that Teams coming off the bye don't often win - can't recall what the stats were.
We had a good night, Cats probably needed a rest, got some crappy bounces and we finally won the free kicks (paid and not paid), but I'll take it after narrow losses to Hawks and North...the boys never took their foot off the pedal, they willed themselves over the line and that's a distinct improvement over recent years.

Totally agree Tony. I must admit a few weeks ago after the Adelaide game I was having concerns, but Richo has shown he truly is the man to take us all the way!tony74 wrote:I know I'm a little biased here but a great job done by the coaching staff etc tonight. Re: Credit where due
Yes, they were cherry ripe tonight. Was this St. Kilda's best post-bye match since the game way back in 1991 when we had to win to make finals and we came out and absolutely thrashed the legs off the Blues at VFL Park? I think it probably was.tony74 wrote:I know I'm a little biased here but a great job done by the coaching staff etc tonight. I didn't think we would win tonight, but wins like this are the foundation stones which build belief in a side rebuilding.

Cats tried hard and wanted to win as much as us - just they had NFI how to handle a rugby union inspired Saints outfit early on. Shame our chief rugby player, Wright, got injured early but he came back on at leastTrev from the Bush wrote:No making excuses for the Cats thank you.

Well drilled outfit. Belief system continues improving.. You have to be happy with the way we are being coached. The steady improvement in players skills, fitness and game plan implementation is very evident... Hats off!

Agree , Tony. Last night was a great affirmation for the players, and for the coaching staff themselves - and for all of us- that Richo and co are on the right track.

Re: Credit where due
old Scotty was out coached last night. Richo had done his homework. They mentioned very early on in the telecast that "how do you tag Paddy, you drag him into your forward line". it was brilliant. Well done Richo. And to be honest in some of our defeats I have seen what they were trying to do but we just didnt have the experience or skills. They are getting better all the time. Richo alluded to this in presser, believing in the plan and sticking to the plan.
No excuses for the cats. They are a good unit and they came back at us and headed us twice but we fought back. Great sign doing that

Yes a much improved effort by the coaching crew last night. Still need to do a lot of work on defensive structures and forward setups, but it is obvious that manic intensity is required to win these games, and that always put you in with a chance of winning

Absolutely right, we absorbed their pressure and showed what a class outfit we were!mullet wrote:old Scotty was out coached last night. Richo had done his homework. Just talking to a mate of mine who was in the Cats rooms last night and he said they were absolutely wrecked after the game. Really bruised and battered. A lot of them saying that our pressure was unbelievable and that we're are a really hard tough team now. He said there was a real sense of respect from some of their senior players. They weren't happy with umpires either.

Re: Credit where due
The coaching is bloody outstanding. I now see why we signed the coach up until the end of 2018. And Sexton and Kingsley are now legitimate assistants.
The club is officially humming. Move to Moorabbin next year. Things are on the up.

Re: Credit where due
Happy to credit the coaches with a great win so long as we can also credit them when we are abysmal instead of blaming a few fringe players.
Everything clicked last night and it was a superb effort, looking forward to seeing that kind of performance consistently in the next few years.

One thing i was happy with was in Scott's presser he was asked if his boys weren't ready and taken by surprise. He immediately called that bulls*** and said his team was 100% ready and that saints have played etihad well all year.Trev from the Bush wrote:No making excuses for the Cats thank you.

Re: Credit where due
Indeed, well done to Richo & the team, but I've been on the Richo bandwagon since we got him.
Whilst we all savour this game, I reckon Richo really showed his quality and poise in the Freo game.
In the 2 & 3 quarters Rossy Lyon really gave Richo a lesson and we were in a spot of bother, Richo took on the wily Lyon in the final quarter in a bold & creative manner and we got up and had a victory that was underestimated at the time.

I reckon Saturday night was our best win in 6 years - since the 2010 Qual final against the same club. We've had some great wins obviously, but this had it all. We were missing our two most experienced defenders as well.

Good to hear. So we stitched them up mentally and physically and they needed their tissues re the umpires as well. I'm hoping this defeat has a long lasting effect on the rest of their season.stkfc1 wrote:Just talking to a mate of mine who was in the Cats rooms last night and he said they were absolutely wrecked after the game.
