Battle set to play vs Cats

Post: # 1719060Post shrodes »

Three goals, 25 touches last week in the 2s. Josh Battle set to play his first game of the season v Geelong on Sunday. STK main session tomorrow morning
Excited for Josh!

Wonder if this means back to 3 tall forwards or Paddy will be dropped.

Exciting to see him get a few kicks. Well done son.
Apparently we were the second youngest side last week so that will continue.

It'd be nice to see him in the team again. He'll probably come in for Wright, among other changes.

Good call, Con.....be interesting to see him develop. See Jacob at Champion Data made the comment tonight that Rebuilds take 7 Years not 5. So not looking too bad at all....

Paddy should be dropped. I fear he could do a Tom Lee who got slaughtered at the Cattery a few years back and effectively destroyed his career.

I'd be dropping 10 other players before McCartin but unfortunately the selection of battle isn't a good sign.

Everyone in and around footy knows that rebuilds take 7 years and deep deep finals in 8th 9th or 10th year.

Actually do some simple maths.

Roo and Kosi first played in 2001. Joined by early draft pick midfielder thereafter. The experienced players around then disappeared by 2008 with banger being last to go. Roo, Kosi, Dal, BJ, Ball etc lead the team to 2 Grand Finals in 2009 and 2010. Rebuilds with a youth focus take time.

They (ALL Clubs) tell the fans 5 years to keep hope up and sell memberships.

Our genuine re-build started with Billings, Dunstan and Acres. 3 top 20 picks and has built from there.

We technically over achieved in 2016 due to Fisher, Dempster, Riewoldt and Montagna there for a young team. 2017 was tougher with just Roo and Joey BUT players like Seb Ross and Dylan Roberton stood up.

I have not given yup on 2018.

2020 was always the real target IMHO.

We need 2 big fish for sure.

Praying for Sloane and Gaff.

A top 10 pick this year will also be a future gun.

Can I ask why no one mentions Bruce to be dropped?
Would have thought he and paddy have been line ball

I dunno. Is Battle going to fix our forward set up? Stick to structures? I'm not so sure. The others were derping it up pretty hard.

Cannot drop Paddy in my opinion. He's not gonna get any more burned than he already is.

One thing is for sure.. Battle just looked plain dangerous on the weekend. Every time he went near it.

Every time.

Missing out wont hurt him. The cats magoos won the flag last year. He will get a good run.

I think they will leave Bruce and Paddy in for now and go with Battle as the temporary Membrey replacement. Wright to be dropped.

In another twit (is that what's it's called) or may have been intagram they put up Lonie with 2 question marks??

Dropping Paddy would be a horrible call. Any forward would struggle with that delivery.

Stop trying to play him like Riewoldt. Sit him in the square and tell him that he’ll be dropped if he crosses the half way line.

He’s a big boy. Geelong’s backline if absolutely decimated. Mackie & Lonergan retired. Taylor & Henderson are injured.

Bring some people into the side that can kick it TO him and just give him some space

Would be a good result if he could snag a few as an old fashioned stay-at-home full forward.

Looking forward to seeing Battle in action either way

We may be heading for a top three pick if things don't turn around pretty damn soon.

Chuck battle on a flank. He has a good tank so let him run around.

Could be a difficult match up for the Pussies.

He's got a good tank, a good build - why didn't he get an opportunity sooner?
That "schoolboy" tag didn't help.

He got 1 opportunity. Just the 1. Should never happen IMO.

The Battleship. He will be a player but will still take time. Is a prototype modern forward and has all the tools. We were very lucky to get him at draft pick 30 odd. Very lucky he slid that far which is great for us though!

Bring on the AXE. I like the idea of playing him as a forward flanker. Can run all day and kicks straight. Play him as much as possible this year with view to permanent spot in 2019.
Keep Paddy anchored in Forward 50 to draw players away from Josh to give him even more space to run

Lets hope some forumites remember this. You know, just in case he doesn't come out and kick a bag
