Coach's message - featuring incredible insights
Wow, I was the very first to “dislike” the latest Coach's Youtube message.
How many more times is he going to trot out this drivel!!!!
Here are the highlights …
Hey Saints Members
The message is a simple one – whenever we threatened to get back in the game we just butchered the ball and our use of the ball was deplorable
If you can park the few minutes before half time we were right in the game.
But way too consistently we kicked the ball back to the opposition when they were relatively easy kicks..
And as a result it just fell apart. It is very hard to defend when you turn the ball over in your front half.
That was frustrating and disappointing.
This has an impact on their energy and attitude
We will drive that strongly and make sure we respond in a much more constructive way and continue to work on our use.
We had some pretty good ball users turn the ball over today which is something we can address reasonably quickly.
I don’t want this to sound like an excuse but that was a pretty young team tonight.
They lost concentration and lost a few moments and we need to get better and we will drive them strongly in that space.
Thanks guys.
So my questions are
- Why do we butcher the ball (and have done all season), what are you doing about it, and why is there no sign of any improvement?
- Why is our use of the ball deplorable (as it has all season) and again why is there no sign of any improvement in our decision making?
- Yes if you park every simple unforced clanger skill error turnover (especially the errors down back that killed us tonight) then we would be competitive but that seems to involve more parking that a DHL delivery van?
- Agree it fell apart due to turnovers, so why do we never seem to address this at training?
- When you say you are going to "respond in a much more constructive way" to the turnovers, why has it taken 21 rounds to see that that was necessary?
- When you say that "some pretty good ball users turned it over today which is something we can address reasonably quickly", why in [edited by Enrico]'s name haven't you addressed this "quick fix" already if it is so easy?
- When you say that you will "drive the players strongly" to address concentration lapses, those lapses have been with us all [edited by Enrico] year so it's a bit bloody late to identify a fix now?
This patronising drivel admits the deficiencies but gives absolutely zero confidence that he is able or trying to fix them. And if his pep talks at training match the level of engagement of his weekly video messages then I can see why we are going backwards down the plughole!!!!!!!!

The best part of this season is if GC and Brisbane both win and go above us.
I'm sick of this year, and last year - we are never in the game at the end, always losing by 40-50 points. It's been happening for 2 years.

Delighted to see the end of the year and the end of this coach and the end of this ridiculously embarrassing time for our football club.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Looking at their fixtures:
They play each other. So one win there to one of them. The other games they will all lose bar a huge upset.
If they draw against each other Suns will stay below us on %.
I am hoping that Suns knock off the Lions.
Or that Blues can knock off Freo, Dogs and Crows.....but with first pick theirs I cannot imagine them winning all 3.

The rot has only perpetuated all season. And Richardson has done precious little to stop the rot. This guy won't lead us anywhere but down the beaten track. I don't think I could stomach two more years of this garbage he churning out.

can't stomach the idea that the club would let richo stuff up the best years of these kids lives - ruining their careers. and all for 1/2 mil.

yeah thats what gets me
forget about me and my years of sacrifice for this club - all a conscious choice
but to see a bunch of talented young hopefuls, through no conscious choice of their own
be failed by a club / an organisation they had the misfortune of being drafted / recruited to
really sticks in my craw

At least he and our club are consistent.
Mentally too soft for AFL footy.
There is a reason teams can kick half their score in 5 minute purple patches against us.

“If you can park the few minutes before half time”.....how many times have we heard that this year? If you just park blah blah blah....
”I don’t want this to sound like an excuse”........embarrassing.
“We will drive that strongly and make sure we respond in a much more constructive way....”. Seriously mate, you’ve run out of things to say. Sounds like the most lame, transparently inadequate kind of corporate spin...
FFS do whatever it takes to get rid of him.

Re: Coach's message - featuring incredible insights
Our high performance team would have explained to him that executing a kick that misses a target takes so much more energy than an accurate one (little known fact, research pending). Now its Richos third law of Sapping football. And they have also pointed out that denial about selective periods of the game can be calming. Well members only 46 messages to go but it was nice to meet that young Pierce lad again, seems to have grown since I last saw him a few years ago.

I saw all those problems in the first JLT game against Carlton and concluded that none of the issues that plagued us in 2017 had not been addressed. I knew then this was going to be a long winter.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Great to see Richo stick up for his player. When asked about the Browne incident his response was ‘I thought it was late’. Seriously what other coach would say that. Maybe he doesn’t want him in the team for the remaining games

Re: Coach's message - featuring incredible insights
It's been happening for five years Spinner.
There was one year, 2016, we got handed a very soft draw, courtesy of playing an uncompetitive Melbourne, Carlton and Essendon (due to player suspension bans) twice, all at Etihad, and an uncompetitive Brisbane at Etihad, which artificially inflated our win ratio that year, but even during that season there were a lot of these types of losses. We also had a fit Roo, Joey, Fisher, and Shinna in the side that year, which helped a lot.

You cant park a few minutes tonight and 7 minutes last week. The game goes for 20 minutes plus time on * 4 quarters. I have never heard such crap in my life from a coach.
Could you image Clarkson, Scott, Hardwick, at a press conference after a loss say " Look if we exclude the 6 minutes where they out scored us 5 goals to 0 we actually won the rest of the game!"
Absolute spin and rubbish.

Re: Coach's message - featuring incredible insights
So did Richo explain why when Billings was burning, and looking like the type of player we all hoped he would be, that he moved him from playing up the field back to the forward line where he has been struggling?
The last two seasons on the whole Billings best games have been when he has been setting up play for us. When he has played in the small forward role he has never looked as good.
When he was bleating about the turnovers up the field, did he reflect on why when Billings was delivering some excellent field kicks there that he instead preferred the poorer kicks in the team there?

Re: Coach's message - featuring incredible insights
It almost beggars belief when I think about it a bit deeper. It’s junior footy stuff. A leadership void. And if Lethlean, Finnis and the board aren’t hearing that and being deeply concerned then.........older saint wrote: ↑Sat 11 Aug 2018 9:38am You cant park a few minutes tonight and 7 minutes last week. Question is -
Are the players skilful enough but not trying ..... Or
Are the players just not skilful enough and that no coaching will help them
I am starting to think even with another coach in the short term .................We are FKD
There is hope with a few younger players but our older contingent are past it....... well past it
May take another 5 years .... even more if we can't keep our younger stars

When I receive these emails I immediately delete them. Embarrassing and cringeworthy. The club are obviously taking the piss out of us by sending us such schitt and expecting us all to stampede toward the “ membership renewal corral “ for 2019. This bloke should do the right thing and GO!

Sick of the anti-Richo crap in this thread.
If you park 2013,2014,2015 and 2018 he is a terrific coach.

Re: Coach's message - featuring incredible insights
We have a so-so so list with virtually no stars with bad coaching, that then makes that list even worse. Having such a poor injury run this year just compounded the first two factor to make this season a perfect storm.Devilhead wrote: ↑Sat 11 Aug 2018 10:42am Question is -

That Roo, Joey and Demspter all left recently with no real quality coming in to offset them is also why we are sliding southwards.
