Humiliated by the Bears.
Richmond down on players.
Maddie's Match.
Saints under the pump.
Everything to play for.
It's really a last chance game.
I have no idea how the side will respond but the Richmond game is massive on all fronts for the club.
Will we bounce back? I have no idea. I don't think anyone does.
This game will tell us a lot about the players and Richo IMO. I'm actually excited to see what transpires but also a little terrified. Don't you just love the footy!
Bounce back to what?
Unfortunately, what we did yesterday, is pretty much our normal. Against rubbish teams, that same performance is a 2 point win.
But against a decent team on a good day, it's a 10 goal walloping.
Realistically, what we did yesterday is just our standard under Cho for the past 6 years.
That's why we beat Gold Coast and Carlton when we play them, then scratch our heads when the same team gets flogged by by Adelaide, or Sydney, or Collingwood or in this case Brisbane the next week.
We just play a very, very ordinary brand of football that has proven to simply not hold up against good teams.
The 'bomb it to the hot spot' strategy requires us to dominate through the middle, in order to generate enough entries to kick 80 points.
Against good teams, firstly we don't dominate the midfield so we don't get the 60+ Inside 50s we need - and secondly good teams kick more than 80 points anyway.
It's no accident that we average only 6.5 wins for the past 5 years.
The strategy is just flawed.
