2020 is going to be a disaster unless...

Post: # 1819772Post saintsRrising »

2020 is going to be a disaster unless... we do something about our ball use.

Today was yet another game when we were in it in the first half, but just butchered our ball use.

In part it is poor skill by foott and hand. And in part it is just too many dumb decisions.

We can often be in games and are doing much of the other things well, but as we butcher the ball in these ways we just make it way too easy for the opposition to get back into the game.

New coach, or not UNLESS, we gain some players who have the skills and the smarts to use the ball well it is hard to see us winning many games next year.

Moreso as the teams in the lower half of the ladder part from the Suns and Dees look likely to be better next year. And the Demons should be a team much better than they have been this year.

Boy oh boy do we need Bytel to be a miracle mid.
Hopefully we gain Hill.

But what is going to happen to improve our ball use? If we only gain Hill, then 2020 is going to be ugly.

Skills come with confidence.

You suspect that the players, deep in their hearts, have little respect for the coaching department.

After today's predictably putrid effort from the usual suspects, I'm convinced that Ross is our best chance.

2020 ? our membership campaign for 2020 was today....it has shown what to expect next year..who in that side will improve enough to get us into finals ?
Who ?

You sometimes think your $hit side may actually have a slightest degree of upside ..then you witness today's game.
reality is a bitter pill...hope they enjoy their end of the year party.

If our next coach was voted in, today's campaign (selection & game) may have just cost Ratten the election.

Robert Harvey would bring in the members, likely new sponsors, a new mindset not poisoned by the past 8 years and hopefully a very large broom & mop with industrial strength disinfectant.

Appoint him next week because the job in front of him is massive but not impossible.

What a shocker of a game by the Saints. No skills, no plan, no playing tenacity, no brains. Very disappointing for next year.

Whoever the new Coach, without some new skilled players in the team, we are going nowhere.

True of course, but its not many but in hard to fill positions. Brett's prospects must have dived today - shades of AR. We need smart and hard nosed.

Jock Ross? I can see what you're trying to do... bring some mongrel, some fight, but he is a tad old.

Rubbish.

When we selected Gumby Rowe for his token 100th and dropped Patton I could see we were taking the piss.

To not make any other changes after last week showed a CBF attitude and game over at selection.

My pleasure, but since it is all so obvious please provide the detailed answer to my question.

The club has now for many drafts identified this as a problem and has even in the past have declared that they would be targeting good kicks. But yet, almost universally they select poor kicks.

What Ratten stated in in his post conference presser after my post, is but the latest in a long line of club officials to basically utter the same thoughts.

"Captain Obvious" indeed, but I am oh so tired of this particular Groundhog Day, and I am so looking forward to the club actually doing something about what they all know, that we all know, but where each year they then only go out and get more players where it is only the rare one who is a decent user of the ball.

Imagine the coach at the first training session for next season when he realises the club's new recruits can't kick very well.

They'll fit in but they won't fix a glaring weakness.
