Re: NAB Cup Rd 1 Official match thread

Thought Ledger, Saad and Sipposs were really impressive. Sipposs will hopefully be a player who demands high pressure moments, seems to love the ball in his hands!
Ross seemed a bit off the pace, reminded me a bit of armitage 4-5years ago. Lenny looked as ferocious as ever.

Re: Riewoldt's output in 2012

I find it interesting, I saw a photo of him from mid season 2009 the other day. He looked incredibly heavier than what he was last season. We know he is an ultra professional, I tend to think that after his hamstring in 2010 he was hell bent of getting into peak condition for finals and getting his ...

There's a reason he fell out of favor at Hawthorn... Can't play on anyone, lacks aggression and speed and nous. Was a benefactor of the 'rolling zone' that hid him in Hawthorns 2008 premiership team, been found out since. I know he has had an average run injury-wise, but I'd be disappointed to see h...

Was informed tonight that Lyon was fev's coach for Carlton 2's when he was first drafted, does anyone else know if that is true? So there is an existing relationship. Is it a positive or negative one?

Credit where credit is due

I've been meaning to write this post for a few weeks now, and am a little surprised no one else has, I may have missed it somewhere along the way, apologies if that's the case. Was thinking about how St.Kilda have turned their season around, a lot of people have congratulated Ross Lyon on riding the...

Yes plugger, may have been a little bit of exaggeration in my post, the way they 'hhhmmmmddd' between themselves implied a bit I think. Sorry buddy I will try to minimise exaggeration on future posts...Also Bruce and dennis' reaction wasn't the sole point of my post...

Seriously Bruce and Dennis...?

Saw a thread on bigfooty last week maybe (yes I sometimes read bigfooty) and it was talking about terms that have crept into the way we commentate on our game. Now there are plenty that i'm sure a lot of people say that aren't really relevant to the way Aussie Rules is played but are still used. Any...

was on level 3 behind the goals and thought defended it until i was blue in the face to mates. The swing on the ball makes it a funny one. I will still defend it for the rest of my life :) On a side note, I hadn't booked tickets as I was tied up in local football and was unsure if I could get there,...

Noticed in some of his highlights and what not that he seems to have a streak of arrogance in him, loves to take a grab walk back (facing away from the goals) and just kick it, doesn't matter where he is, just wants to go back and slot it. Hope that grows into a pure confidence and willingness to ta...

While we're starting player threads - Riewoldt.

Gets smashed from pillar to post, presents and presents for little reward, has to fly against 3 or 4 players, kicks going high and long to favour the backman... Tonight, he refused to give in and when we moved the ball with conviction and purpose his superior gut running, workrate and will for the c...

i'm not usually one for pinning games on umpire decisions, there are thousands of decision throughout a game that affect the overall result. But 2 critical calls by the umpires; Milne gets one over the shoulder, pushed under the flight, chopped the arms, whatever you want to call it. Play on. Fine a...

To me Goddard looks like someone who has run 10 marathons in the last 2 months... Meaning he may well be fit but driving himself so hard that he hasn't been fresh. Carrying a sore body and fighting through it... I've got no basis for this, but his energy levels are really lacking. I thought maybe th...

Hardball Get vs. Contested Possenssion

Had this question asked of me, and wonder what the difference ACTUALLY is, if any, or if anyone else has a different view. Without having really thought about this I would have a guess at suggesting that Hardball Gets are those where there is no team in clear possession of the football and to gain p...

SainterK that's where we need to keep backing ourselves when we have the footy. How often does Harry O cut of an opposistion kick and play kick to kick with Maxwell... Instead he springs off running FORWARD and at worst turns it over 60m away from him. As I said I have seen improvement from a few, b...

it's funny, I watched him plod around at Casey for a couple of years...Always had talent, no doubt about that. I used to question his speed but always noted that with every game of VFL seniors he improved and adapted his game to utilise other attributes. Getting games was vital for him as his first ...

4 minutes into the game

Before I get to my point 4 minutes into the game, take some time to have a read. You may disagree, but this is where I see the game heading and St. Kilda not keeping up at the Moment. Frontal pressure and the press are common words used in todays football. St. Kilda were great in 09 and 10, but coll...

and can I just add while I love the ANZAC weekend and think the AFL do a fantastic effort of paying tribute and respecting the event, it is so ridiculous for people to consider comparing going out 'battle' on the football field to those actions taken by service men/women. I cringe every time a footb...

it was a pretty pathetic article... not sure why it popped up nearly a week after the event either... Lyon questioned why it was soaking wet when it hadn't been raining, said they may have thought about going smaller otherwise, pretty fair to ask as a coach... It's easy to bag on St. Kilda because s...
