There are 2 Zacs; 1) the defender that has the ability to rebound and has a strong left foot (at times) when the team is playing great team defence and forcing to a large contested pack of players 2) the defender struggling in one-on-one contests when he lacks awareness to his opponent and loses bod...

Bombers under pressure now whether to take the Essendon role, cracks are appearing. Ablett same. Come out and tell Geelong you wont go to fix the innuendo. Or take the consequences of disunity. Theres a sense of arrogance with everything blue and white. The crowd was only up and about when they mome...

He played with a certain flair for a first gamer. I liked his attack on the ball and ability to spread - this allows someone like Gilbo to play a similar attacking role as the options build out of defence. His one fluff of a kick seemed to be when he injured himself (hammy twinge?) took the mark and...

Watched him closely at times, looks to be playing injured/ with discomfort. Is he playing overweight? There was one moment he was running shotgun to the ball carrier down the outer wing. Ideal play was to put on the after burners, accept the handball and kick deep inside 50. Instead he remained in a...

The forward line has been a symptom of the poor performance of the team the last 4 weeks (4 winning quarters from 16) Essendon controlled the footy Friday Night - time in possession was 50% Essendon and 35% Stkilda (15% contest) Thats a real indictment for a top 4 side that the other lower ranked si...

Recently attended the MCG midweek just before the Collingwood game - 1/3 of the ground had covers on, 1/3 under a bank of heat lamps and 1/3 enjoying the drizzle. And the 1/3 getting heat lamps were on the Northern Side most likely receiving zero sun. Not sure if heat lamps are common at Ethihad as ...

First problem is the surface...or bouncing techniques.....bounce was going about 9 foot and often ruckman were tapping it to their feet resulting in an all in brawl for the ball. Ditto the next bounce. Bizarre decision on Gilbert holding the ball...he kicked it but unpire was blind-sided. So say &qu...

Are we short a classy mid and he is being more attacking to counter this? Ray played on Hodge at the 1st bounce and was standing 10 metres from him. WE seemed to play on plenty last night with several cross ground moves to pressing defenders. The mindset was more attack. I thought Saints won the gen...

First of all the coach likes Gaertner. Thats a pretty defining impression of where he'll be next year! 200cm defenders dont grow on trees with good pace. The kicking was always the knock but he performed well in the NAB Cup. Long term, defence is always an area to develop. The second point usually o...

The AFL average for the first 7 rounds for Goals from Inside 50's was 25.1%. So we are roundabout. However the first 3 rounds with Roo, we scored at over 33% efficiency. Also, the stats show the Geelongs, Freos, Carlton etc do very well once its in the 50 arc. Much can be put down to the classy mids...

Half back has become the launching pad in recent seasons, Grammy being an architect of some creative work. But at half back, when Raph's in defence he seems in two minds - the courageous run back into the pack defender and the link player in heavy traffic. I think at parts of the game getting Raph t...

Hard not to be impressed by Simpkin as well. Simpkin was in the best, coming back from injury and plays a potential similar role to Sam Gilbert. His disposal looked A ok too, which is not always striking from the Sandy players. He showed plenty of aggression and if he keeps the upward momentum looms...

Cahill seemed to roll his ankle early in the game. Not sure what the prognosis is. He had the other ankle problem last year so has had a bad run with it. I'd say he'd be doubtful for this week (he crawled across the boundary line to get off) Lynch be more of a chance to start his AFL career but hasn...

Stanley lined up from 55 and sunk it home for Sandy last weekend. If theres one reason only that he should play its because he can kick straight for goal !! What was our set shot accuracy again on Sunday night? Was it 1-7 the same as the week before? When Stanley went back, denied leads and kicked t...
