The Brighton Club Hotel on the corner of Nepean Highway and Union Street Brighton. Now Dan Murphys.

I was just a kid but in the mid-sixties I remember my Dad pointing out a pub on Beach Road down Sandringham way...maybe further down, where Siera's Dad had a pub. Brian worked there I'm sure. Or maybe he helped him run it.

Dad used to drop in for a bevvie or two on the way home to Beaumaris.

I'm sure I'm not dreaming that.......

Siera's was definitely on Nepean Highway (corner Union Street) in the mid-60's - I lived around the corner from it.
Tommy Bent's statue stood opposite it in the median strip of Nepean Highway.

It was known as "Sieras Brighton Club Hotel". I still have a calendar with St Kilda colours in cloth material at the the top, in a square shape, that fits into the top pocket of a suit jacket. On the back of it is the 1965 calendar year.

I am pretty sure that it was the Hampton Hotel (now apartments) and not the Red Bluff

You could be right Fid.

Most times I would have been looking at the name through the bottom of a glass.

100% correct. I think it was on the corner of Small St and Beach rd.

Can't say it was the best run pub and it was no surprise when it got shut down.
Stewie should have stuck to running the laundromat in Elsternwick.

Hampton, that was it. I drove past it earlier in the year when I was in Melbourne. Did the Siera's maybe have an interest in it in the mid-60's? That was definitely the pub, and the Siera's were mentioned in relation to it. I wasn't drinking then (!) so can't swear to the accuracy. They might have had interests in a few pubs. Not unheard of.

Yes, Stewie had the Hampton which as St Fid said is now apartments, and the Red Bluff is a block of weeds.

Wasn't Ian Stewart also involved somehow with the pub on the corner of Bay and New Streets in Brighton?

The old Devonshire Hotel now has the inspiring name Newbay Hotel.

The old Railway Hotel in Bay Street is now the Hotel Brighton under the control of some tall bloke with blonde hair.

The Central Hotel in Church Street has had so many names I've lost count and don't even know if it's still open.

Kyatts in Wilson Street next to the old cop shop is gone.

The Terminus Hotel at Brighton Beach is now Milanos.

Last but not least the Marine Hotel in New Street is stillthe Marine Hotel.

Yep..torn down in double quick time only to have the developers run out of money. Its just a big empty block now with a nice tower that showed clients the sea view if they climbed it. Clearly not enough did lol

I used to sell The Herald at the old Hampton Hotel...cost 4 cents then...most people gave you 5 cents and said keep the change..

The Red Bluff seems to have some sort of movement finally happening...

and of course the Beaumaris is now being run as a cafe with a St Kilda connection involved

The Red Bluff used to be a lovely little pub.

The site was bought some years ago by Prime Life with plans to build a retirement home.
When they and their dodgy ex-CEO Ted Sent got into difficulties it stalled.

Now sold to another developer to build a block of flats - sorry they call them apartments now.

Yeah it was mentioned in the financial section of the age, Sam Gilbert with brackets of (st kilda player)

But having said that, the Hampton Hotel really rocked when Stewart held the licence of running of running the Hampton Hotel and I am not too sure if he actually "OWNED" the hotel.....

I would doubt that he would have any money to actually own anything at the time...

I was working at Brighton Police Station when Stewart went "missing" towards the last game of the season...

My Snr Sgt at the time was coach of the Swans reserves team.....

Stewart went missing for a few days and the Snr Sgt selected the side to play...

I think it was the last round of the season (but I am going back some time)

He bragged on about it for weeks.... on how he selected players that were junior and had potential compared to older players that were on their way out....

All the "junior" players played and won the match and both the coach and the assistant (snr sergeant) we never to be seen again n the VFL/AFL

Red Bluff burnt down actually, original permit to Prime Life was supposed to retain the facade, mysteriously burnt down and had to be demolished.
Work has finally commenced there.
