Suggested change to NAB cup format....
Must say the 2 X 20 minute halves are a great idea IMO.
But I reckon the nab cup will die in the arse interest wise in the 2nd round when the games are full length.
Full length praccy matches are too long.
I reckon they should for the second round have the Top 9 teams go through (ie the 6 winners of each group in round 1 and the 3 best losers), and then have three 2nd round round-robin games, involving 3 teams each time.
The winner with the highest percentage in Round 2 goes straight through to the Grand Final, whilst the other 2 winners play in a Semi.
Thoughts?

Yes it is, but it's a necessary evil, so why not make it slightly watchable?Enrico_Misso wrote:NAB cup is irrelevant.
We are better off losing and playing practise games with the proper rules.
Kudos to the AFL for making a dead duck quarter alive!

watching teams use only their kids- about half so far
maybe it could be for Under 23's in any team- . check out the new kids...
or limit the number of 'older' or 'games played' players..
under 23 and udner 100 games maybe.
Just noted by commentary team- umpires appear to have done 1 game and half and changed to new for second ahlf of evening.

I'm not sure they can bring in 24 full rounds next season. With 24 round this season we have already got an October Grand Final and we don't have a split round in the middle.plugger66 wrote:Probably the last year if they hopefully increase to 24 rounds next year. Dont mind this year but they will never bring in last touch free kick. Just doesnt work.
Can't start the season early as the cricket venues need to be held for the Sheffield Shield final (This years final is due to finish 3 days before the Rd 1 Carlton V Richmond game). That counts out the MCG, SCG, GABBA and eventually Adelaide Oval.
What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.
There is going to be 24 rounds this year, in preparation for next season (mark my words, sides will play 24 next year). Teams will play every side once, and another 7 against sides that teams play will rotate year to year H&A on a 2 year rotational basis.Saint_Ash wrote:I'm not sure they can bring in 24 full rounds next season. Surprisingly enough, 18 teams will be easier to organise a draw with than 16 was.

Ok so you are saying a fair rotational draw over 2 years?HSVKing wrote:There is going to be 24 rounds this year, in preparation for next season (mark my words, sides will play 24 next year). What about all those friggin blockbusters that have return matches?
Are the AFL going to forgo plenty of $$$ just in the name of fairness?
That would be a first!

It actually only cuts out one of those grounds. I am sure they can find a week or two from somewhere especially since footy basically finances those grounds.Saint_Ash wrote:I'm not sure they can bring in 24 full rounds next season. Teams may play 24 games but the AFL would never forego the money for blockbusters by rotating the draw in that way.HSVKing wrote:There is going to be 24 rounds this year, in preparation for next season (mark my words, sides will play 24 next year). 100% correct. People may not like it but blockbusters will be played against certain sides if we play 22 or 24 games.sainter35 wrote:Teams may play 24 games but the AFL would never forego the money for blockbusters by rotating the draw in that way.HSVKing wrote:There is going to be 24 rounds this year, in preparation for next season (mark my words, sides will play 24 next year). Not saying they're going to drop the big games.sainter35 wrote:Teams may play 24 games but the AFL would never forego the money for blockbusters by rotating the draw in that way.HSVKing wrote:There is going to be 24 rounds this year, in preparation for next season (mark my words, sides will play 24 next year). Of course they're going to have Coll v Ess, Coll v Carl, Coll v Rich etc etc twice a year, including the SA, WA, and soon to be QLD and NSW derbies.
The way I was talking, is that everyone else, say if St Kilda plays Port only once in a year and it's in Melbourne, then we'll most likely the next year we'll play them once but over in Adelaide.
