Swans deserve the win.,, they've out-tackled us.

Hawks should be worried.

Ross knows that...that might be why he said we have to cut deep...has he got the nads to do it or will he bail and go to the demons and leave it for someone else......

This game probably sums up the year.

Decent chance to reload now...

But that's pretty annoying.

would've been nice to get a few games into walsh this year.
beaten by a team prepared to play youth for more than a few token games.
roo hopefully back next year. he's a liability this year.

good effort to play finals, but well off the pace.

All our "good" youth broke down and ended up in the infirmary so "he" went for the tried and true.....

Can't take anything away from the swans, they did what they had to. I hope they go all the way.

They ended in the infirmary because Siposs and Ledger etc.. were played one time too many... given their young bodies.
= whereas Walsh who was physically ready was mysteriously overlooked.

I am not comparing them to my easy chair, comparing them to other teams eg Geelong who we were supposed to be better than.

Yeah I think you have summarised this well. Roo has the endeavour to run but he injury has caused loss of break out speed to hold marks away from his opponent. He also tries to take way too many marks on his chest (that he doesnt get). Too easy for defenders. He leads to much to pockets and therefore doesnt provide scoreboard pressure.

He is far from alone. Several passengers need to go.

The coach also needs to make change when the same team beat us with the same team selection and and same clearance pattern. Nothind changed in our selection to adjust this. Gardiner got a run last week, where was he this week? Not playing. Clearances are a major problem. When we do get the ball we often hand it straight to opposition players, even without pressure at times. Is that because the opposition is talking better? Probably based on what I saw tonight.

Bombing the ball forward is another unfortunate occurrence. Loopy kicks in thebackline cause unnecessary player pressure and stops any creativity. We need to learn to counter one on one footy. There is no game plan for this. The Swans do it brilliantly, they protect the ball carrier. I saw this many times in the Swans defence tonight that actually allowed quick ball clearances and movement to the forwards.

We weren't good enough in 2011 but quite some margin. I'm sort of glad we dont advance as I suspect we would get a thrashing later given our poor kicking skills, inability to create, take risks and take our chances in front of goal by key forwards.

Theres plenty to do for 2012.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

bassoon wrote:What we need is players who can bloody kick the ball to teammates. The effort has been there but the disposal is what you would expect from a bottom four side. We should have had three or four goals in the first, with Roo missing before three quarter time, and even Goddard making disposal errors. We have many gutsy players, but we have many players with no brains. This mob can't win a Premiership, and its time to completely rebuild.
Saints have little forward structure and tend to support defence with the midfield so much that we run out of legs or speed to contain the opposition.

We still need to learn to spread and run. So often we kick backwards and forwards in defence before advancing. No creativity here and easy to read and defend by the opposition. It makes it hard for Roo with 3 players hanging off him but he needs to stop doing so much wasteful running to pockets or across the half forward line. Without other players there he always will have a battle. Needs a Gehrig, Fevola or some other to mix it up a bit.
