Congrats to all the umps. I found (not frequently enough) that Grand Finals were the easiest games to umpire simply because they involve the most skillful players (at any competition level) so there are less player errors. That doesn't mean that every decision is correct. Last year was a near faultless performance by the umps in GF1 ( I didn't pay too much attention in GF2 after the first few minutes of the second quarter). In 2009, there were two bad errors, one goal umpiring and one field umpiring. Neither error would have been deliberate and both umpires would still regret not getting it right. However, this was on top of the numerous player errors by us ( I reckon we wasted five or six goals), and so it was one that got away, and don't we all know it.

Was baffled he made the prelims, GFs don't need personalities, they need blokes that will blow the whistle when needed and let the best team win.
The less technical ones they call the better, as the consistency with those is a coin flip.

Matt Stevic was one of my teachers. Great guy, he was the one who awarded Gwilt the 'in the back' vs Geelong in last years final.

Good decision by the AFL. The last thing they want is some primadonna umpire influencing a game with rash decisions.

Umpires should be seen and not heard. End of story.
