Which rookies to promote?

Post: # 1183625Post borderbarry »

With only 38 senior spots taken out of 40, two rookies are likely to be promoted, and maybe even a third if Gwilt is on Long Term Injury List.
You would think that Archer and Curran would have the front running, b ut our lack of medium forwards may see one of the new boys elevated.
What are your thoughts?

Is Archer to be used as a ruckman?

I would think that they would promote on a needs basis - so perhaps we won't know anything until after the NAB Cup.

Ferg and Archer for starters. Our tall stocks on our Senior list are quite low. Then who knows. Maybe one of the new blokes or Curran.

Why make a decision on this now? Let them know that they are going to really "Earn" a spot on the primary list and that none of them will get a spot unless it is warranted and/or required. That should sort out the wheat from the chaff. Any decision should be held off until about 1 week before the season starts !!

Yes, and there is that thing called the NAB Cup.

However I would say that Ferg and Archer are currently in the lead, followed by Curren.

Err Eastern, I dont believe any of us posters will be makin a decision at all. As can be seen by the drafts, the players we posters wanted were not in the main the players we got. But we can all express our opinions I hope.

I hope Curren gets rewarded for all the hard work he has put in during the off season.

I reckon we need mature-age forwards in the side, saad will be one, and I reckon shenton looks ready for AFL, throw him in the deep end, see if he can swim!

Hey Barry, It's just that I think we would be in better shape if there isn't a need to promote any Rookies. I know we can promote 2 at any time, but if their isn't a need DON'T promote just for the sake of promoting. It costs too.

My theory is keep them on the rookie list and keep dangling the two spots at them to see who wants it the most !!

Maybe we can rename the thread "Which two Rookies do we think, and hope, will put their hands up for promotion to the Senior List?" :)

Shenton and Dunall (spelling?) are the mature age guys I'd give them a shot if they perform in the NAB.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Ferguson is a 19 year old KPP, I doubt he would be physically developed to play AFL

I see him being a longer term project, but from what I've seen he looks very good

I hope Shenton becomes a gem and demands a spot but the big Darch would make a nice story too. He looked good after last years NAB and the fact he looks like Rooey with too many donuts in him helps confuse the opposition.

Hope he splits the packs like a train again and make himself a full back who could hospitalise the Clokes and Rougheads.

From what I've seen of Ferg he is miles off.

Even Curren has a long way to go despite physically looking great.

Archer and Saad for me two bobs.

Yeah the Ferganator. Curran hasn't had quite the same buzz but it could be because he isn't a potential KPP.

Curran reminds me of Mcqualter

Is supposed to be an inside mid, but will be stuck tackling in the forward line...looking to pinch the odd goal.

Archer has actually shed some pounds, so he's giving himself a shot
