Molly is a Life member of the saints

MOLLY Meldrum's friends and family have changed the tune for the music guru's birthday on Sunday.
Meldrum will turn 66 but this year's celebration is not about age but about him simply being alive

There is an interview with Molly''s brother in todays Media supplement of The Australian. I have a lot of time for Brian as he has done a wonderful job of keeping us all uptodate on Molly's progress, in the interview he tells how difficult it has been at times. The last question in the interview is as follows:

Q. Will Molly make it to the first St Kilda game of the season?

A. As much as we would all love to believe it, for that to happen would almost be as big a miracle as the Saints winning the 2012 grand final (I barrack for Richmond)

Well Brian I hope Molly is up and singing "Oh When the Saints Go Marching In" when Reiwoldt et al are holding the the 2012 Prmiership Cup aloft........... maybe after defeating the Tigers in the grannie

Keep improving Molly...................... and keep giving us the updates Brian cos we love your brother so much at the Saints.

if the saints winning the 2012 grand final is classified as a miracle, what's richmond making the finals classified as?

It's a great thought and a profound wish I share Loris, but after the surgeon's report on Sunday night I think we have to face up to some facts.

Molly is in his mid-60s. The brain begins it's shutdown time towards old age in the mid 60s. Whereas a full recovery from this type of injury is possible for 20yolds, it is most unlikely for a guy in his 60s. The Molly we knew will never fully return, and the prospects are that he will require one to one care for the rest of his life.

Would be nice to get him to do a lap in a car before one of our home games.
A big cheer from the crowd would help lift his spirits.

Might be too noisy for him dependent on his recovery rate.

Meldrum said his recent experience with head injuries left him shocked.

"Head injuries are very complex and we can't always cure these things," he told 3AW.

"I really am of the belief ... that when something like this happens, basically I don't think the crowd would mind at all if the game was to stop for the player involved to get help straight away and get attended straight away."

Meldrum also confirmed his doctors had given him the all-clear to resume work.

Channel 7 said Meldrum will fly to Los Angeles on Sunday, but would not confirm details of his interviews.
