Alipate Carlisle?

Post: # 1231217Post sax »

I don't know how many of you guys saw on the weekend, but Alipate was dropped controversially from Ports team. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/teams/a ... 6398115601

I rate Alipate, he takes the monsters.
Would you think the Saints would be interested in making a bit of a play? 26 next year.

I'm not saying we should go for him, I'm just starting a discussion.

He only signed up with the team last year, so wouldn't think we would be a chance.

Would have to be a trade but I can still see it happen. Port actually has quite a few KPP backs and rucks. It's their midfield that has needed to improve ad a bit of cream.

Failing to meet fitness requirements is a bit of a worry, I have seen him play some good games against us though…

I think the re-hashing of GOPs very rarely comes off, I think that Gamble, Polo and probably Wilkes have been list-cloggers, who really just take games away from Siposs, Ledger etc

Gehrig, King & Gardiner (M) were all very good footballers.

Is Carlisle any good? I've only really seen him against us…

He's not going to be g train but you could see a ted richards kind of outcome. KPP are less of a risk of list clogging than those utility types and as much as they didn't set he world on fire neither did Cahill, Johnson, Heyne, Lynch or walsh all developed and failed to make the cut. You would probably find statistically better results for recycled players than recruits still.

I would still try to cut a deal to get Mohr from GWS he is going to be something very special. Bit of Brian Lake mixed with Scarlett and elite closing speed. Still can't work out if he's any relation to our old timer Mohr.

Chortle.

I wouldn't say no to somehow getting a deal for him. No idea how though. That being said I would be all for trading picks for players and back the new coaching group to develop from within too.

Simply put we need a mature key defender. All clubs get currency via draft picks. If we can see more value in 6 seasons of Carlisle over picking up a player in the 30s then go for it.

It's not a question of development, it's a question of size. Simpkin's great, he'll keep getting better but he will always struggle against a resting ruckman or monster forward.

I made this exact suggestion about a week ago.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

I'm glad you indicated that it was Michael Gardiner to whom you were referring by way of the '(M)'. Failing that, I would have been tearing my hair out trying to gauge which Gardiner it was that you rated as a good footballer. Charlie was pretty impressive...
