Why are Sydney on top of the ladder?

Post: # 1253980Post Gershwin »

I don't have the answer to this question but the answer may help us understand our future.

To me they don't seem to have many superstars - maybe they have a home ground advantage but what else have they got going for them ??

Interested in your opinion.

I think you underestimate Goodes, Mumford, Okeefe and Reid if he isn't will be

I also think Richards is severely underrated so yet..... they have stars for sure

Interesting.
Goodes and Mumford have missed quite a few games. Okeefe has been average, Reid just so so. Not sure that I agree that they have many 'stars'.

Harsh on O'Keefe. One possesion less per game than Lenny and kicked about 10 more goals. They also have Jack who is really a star and Kennedy who is also close to being a star. Their midfield is where they get their drive and that is one of the best in the AFL.

Are you guys serious they have one of the best mids in the comp...

Kennedy is a brownlow chance IMO
Jack is a star
Hannebery is coming along nicely and will be an absolute gun in a couple of years
Jude Bolton deserves to be mentioned in the same sentance as Lenny Hayes, not as good but certainly in the same league
Mumford is an elite ruck, but even in his absense guys like Mike Pyke have been playing good footy
Goodes and O'Keefe still have it.
Richards has been the best KPD this season

Plus they have a really good home ground advantage and one of the best cultures in the comp.

They have added pace and sensational spread to an already elite defensive setup. They all play their roles and are immensely disciplined.

Jack and Kennedy are stars in the midfield, and they've had a very good run with injuries.

Sydney are a top clearance side, they spread well, they have one of the best team defences and they can score a number of ways. They're probably the best all-round team in the comp this year so it shouldn't be a shock they're tops.

They have one of the top inside mids in Kennedy, the best outside mid in Jetta, a dual Brownlow medallist in Goodes and likely the AA FB in Richards. They also have the best ruck tandem outside of Perth. If those players aren't stars it's because they play in Sydney.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

They would be very close as a group. They sometimes go to interstate games a bit early just to bond as a team, and are away for a weekend every fortnite so would know each other better than most family members would.

A extra $700 000 a year in the salary cap has contributed to them being in finals 14 out of the last 16 years.
Time for that to go imo.
The theory they need it because it's more expensive to live there than Melbourne doesn't wash.
If that was the case then we should have a higher cap than Adelaide.

You do have a point, the Lions have dropped off since they lost their salary cap room

It must be because of Tommy Walsh, well the way some people talked him up last year, you would think he was going to be the next big thing.

Can I make a wager with you about that?
