Very good.

Behind Plugger.

We love Harvey.

Seems to have gotten over the darkness that weighed him down in the last few years. Fantastic the way he is presenting this year.

a mark of a true champion is how they come back from adversity
How painful it was it to watch him struggle since GF2 2010 - physically broken, emotionally shattered - Farken long road

I think if anyone knew his physical condition they would find it hard to imagine how he even plays, let alone dominates... His knee management is comprehensive... But his will is astonishing... A lot would have retired.

Can't bend, struggles to turn.... Struggles to jump...

But just runs himself into the ground, knows where to run and of course has elite hands in the air

Superstars, don't lose skill, they lose mobility and reflex speed... He doesn't move anything like he used to, but he is wise and knows his game better now, and in many ways a more damaging player with his leadership.

Ooh tough call, above barks definitely. Also forgotten Baldock?
Just all of them true champions of the club.

All greats, but Ian Stewart was easily the greatest player I've seen in red, white and black. Sorry if I'm showing my age. :D

I left him out because he left us. But for some reason forgive plugger?

Clearly one of the best Sainters of all time.
The on field stuff is visible for all,but ,he is so much more to the club.
Don't know how to rate him,but certainLy every bit as good as the Plugger, harvs, and the Doc
All time great all the same.
Where would we be without him?

Roo is a real heart and soul player. His loyalty and dedication to the club is unquestionable. He really bleeds red, white and black.

You get the feeling that there was no way Roo was gonna go out on a low note
From absolute champion to broken man struggling with mind and body, his constant effort , the naysayers writing him off, his best football behind him etc , look it may be an early call but for him to be back on top his game in the later years of his career is sheer testament to the resolve and pride of the guy. A pretty important figure to have at and leading the club to lift and inspire the old and young guys alike

Well come on then tell us how bad the hip and knee are then.

What's the point in saying that and then not explaining so everyone has to run after BM to ask?
Or is it a trade inside secret????

i remember watching an interview with roo explaining that he needs to warm up, doing run throughs and stretches for about 2 hrs prior to games because of his knee. he pretty much plays a game before the game. that interview was last year, i believe.

Yeah yeah And he gets blood drained from his body, spun. Then injected into the stuffed knee.

Still wonder what Dr BM has to elaborate on

Now that the pressure and stress of making finals and trying to win GFs appears to have dissipated, Nick is free to get his body right and enjoy his footy again.

Similarly, we as fans can now relax a little and not focus on sometimes dodgy shots at goal, and simply take in and marvel at the absolute champion this bloke is.

Make sure you enjoy it while you can – I certainly will :)

Time has a magic way of inflating someones greatness as us fans easily recollect the great stuff but forget the poorer games ... in 10 years time Nick will be hands down the greatest player to ever play for the saints make no mistake i would imagine he will be inducted into the AFL hall of fame the instant he become eligiable and will be the youngest player to be elevated to legend status at St kilda ....

i can only imagine the hype on here when/if he and his missus bring a baby boy into the world

Nearing my 40th birthday this year....

Best in my time

1. Plugger
2. Roo
3. Banger
4. Winmar
5. Barker

I only got to see the very end of Barks' career as a young fella but he was my childhood idol in the same way that my little girl idolises Roo (she's the 'VIP' of her prep class this week & took her #12 Rooey jumper in to show the class... tears in my eyes!).

Since 1960, the 20 most skillful (e.g. mark, kick both sides, handball both sides) Saints players, that I have seen, have been, in order of appearance:
Darrel Baldock
Ross Oakley
Ian Stewart
Barry Lawrence
John McIntosh*
George Young
Trevor Barker
Graeme Gellie*
Tony Lockett
Nicky Winmar
Nathan Burke
Robert Harvey
Aussie Jones
Joel Smith*
Lenny Hayes
Nick Riewoldt
Justin Koschitzke*
Aaron Hamill*
Luke Ball
Brendon Goddard
* Cruelled by injury.

Below Plugger and Harves.
Plugger is the best of any player every.

Above Barker

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss
