Kicking skill and pace

Post: # 1402753Post Con Gorozidis »

These were the two things specifically mentioned by Chris P yesterday in his online chat.

To all of you who know the draft prospects who do you think we will go for using this criteria ?

I think Savage ticks both boxes.

Ok ok comics :D

I mean in the upcoming draft.

But on that. I am amazed how slow tdl actually is.
I thought he was a real speed machine like jetta given he is so skinny but his pace is nothing special at all.
His kicking for goal also aint that flash.
Milera is a lovely kick but also not super quick.
Dal is a lovely kick but seemed to make a lot of uncharacteristic howlers this season.
Not sure his brain was really switched on and dal is no speedster either.

milera and TDL are quick enough but TDLs problem has never been goal kicking- he's very accurate just doesn't get enough of it yet. I think Dal was just under a lot more pressure one Goddard left. The better players lined up directly on him and for the first time he started rushing his kicks.

Goddard not that bad either.
Watching the Hawks in the GF retaining possession through kicking was stunning.
Birchall, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Gibson, Guerra, Smith...
I'd like to see the Saints play like that soon.

I know tdl has a reputation as a dead eye dick but this year i saw poor goal kicking , zero defensive game , average speed and low possession.
His only attribute i can see is he knows how to time a lead pretty well.

May I please vote for a bloke called Lockett. Not just his goal kicking, he was brilliant at landing the ball on the breast of his team-mates too !!

I don't think we'll be struggling to find 3 or 4…

Off the top of my head these guys will be lucky to go on

Hayes, Jones, Gwilt, Maister, Milera, Saad, Dennis-Lane, Schneider, Siposs, Fisher, Dunell

11.

Sheed was unbelievable against Country and what I liked is that he destroyed some of the highly fancied country mid fielders. I heard him speak and he is all class. Going to be a very good AFL footballer.

Hawthorn is like a team of about 10 players with kicking skills very much like Dal Santos.

They are impressive to watch.

Did you ever see Winmar play? Most skilful and best kick ever, left or right, long or short distance, and kicked goals. Dal misses too many.

Was also a ferocious tackler and often took marks standing on opponent's heads. Complete footballer. Pity he's not 17 again and in the draft.

im putting early money on Sheed to win the rising star award nex year ... the kid is a gun !! he is a funny one bit like Daniel Rich where he will slip back in the draft a fair bit and then make an instant impact on the comp .. would love it if he some how manages to slip to our second first round pick but i doubt he will

I would imagine Kelly and Aishe would qualify. But I also think we need more grunt in the middle too. Guys like Crouch and Dunstan would appeal there. Then there is Freeman who blitzed them at the draft camp. I dont think we will have any trouble picking one or two of each category. But I also think with Milne and Saad out of the picture we also need a good small forward. We dont want to be relying on TDL as our best small forward..

Id suggest we dont even bother with a small forward unless they can run through the middle.

NO BARRY!!!

No more small forwards… lets play our young mids there instead, they get experience and can rotate through the midfield… we'll have 2 or 3 new ones this year to go with Curren, Newnes, Murdoch, Saunders, Wright, etc...

Plus we still have Minchington, Schnieder, Milera, TDL & possibly Saad… if these guys are no good they should all be delisted.

Kelly fits both of those.

Aish isn't slow but he doesn't have electrifying pace.
