Joey to the bummers

Post: # 1468542Post White Winmar »

I was wondering recently why Joey's form had been indifferent of late. A normally reliable source told me that Joey was as good as signed, sealed and delivered to the drug cheats at the end of the year. Apparently the deal was agreed to in principle during a recent golf game that included BJ in the foursome. Who knows how true it is, but it might explain a bit about his recent efforts. Anyone heard anything?

Havent heard a think but I said to a mate today he doesnt look at all interested, almost as though his heart and future is elsewhere. Perhaps Bombers have that compo pick on the table - I would take it.

They must have a never ending cap... They are heaps better than us, and can afford one of our better players?

Watson, Goddard, Zaharakis, Carslisle, Hurley.... And now Montagna

The possible reason is
K.Cornes ... One of the best run with players ever.
And every other team which puts a hard tag on him?!

When Jack has been twice tagged, he has been quiet.

Rarely does a tagger have their opponent get above their career average.... Unless of course your Hamish Hartlett getting a career high against CJ

At least he is contracted so that if he goes, we have a little bit of bargaining power…

We are probably bottom next year regardless I guess… but it will get a lot uglier than this year if we lose any more of our better player.

If there's any truth to this, it doesn't make any sense that he has given up. You'd think another club would want to sign him after coming off good form, right?

While he still has currency, good idea.
Can get a high quality youngun with 10 or more years ahead of him.

Just quickly watched the second quarter on double speed again. Joey didnt have Cornes as an opponent in that quarter. he mainly played on jack in that quarter. There are 3 other quarters but didnt really notice Cornes being on Joey but its nearly impossible from TV.

For what pick?
If it's pick 18 or 19 then I hope this is true.

Unless your mate is Joeys manager or on the extreme inner sanctum at bomberland then I cant believe it is true.

I was wondering if we could "lose" him to free agency and get the pick immediately after our first pick as compensation, but realised we can't do that because he's still contracted so it'd have to be a trade and the draft pick in return wouldn't be as good.

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

In reality - happy to lose montagna for the right draft pick.

Perched is keen for as many first round picks as possible.

Montagna and 3rd round pick for bombers 1st round pick? Is that enough to get the deal done?

Pick 19 would be great. not sure we could get that and then the question needs to be asked, can we afford to lose another experienced player.

As good as gone. In self-preservation mode like BJ in 2012.

Pelchen has signalled another 3 first round picks this year. And we sure need them if we're realistically going to compete in 2018.

In reality we should have kept Dal Santo instead of Montagna.

Seriously?

He's playing on some decent opposition atm... Considering there isn't a whole lot we have left worth tagging.

The more I think about this, the less likely it sounds to me.

Essendon would be mad to trade their only decent pick for 2 years for a 31 year old… out of form no less. They aren't even in contention for a top 8 spot really.

I don't mind trading Leigh if we get a good deal, but surely we wouldn't let him go for anything over 30-odd? What's Essendon's next pick roughly - 3rd round? - mid 40's

Why would he have just recently extended his contract if he wanted to move clubs? When he could have moved freely at the end of the year?

Anyway… hope his form lifts regardless, for our sake and/or trade value.

He'll probably get 40 possessions next week and people will be saying that "we can't let him go...".

Can we afford to waste another draft?
Montagna or no Montagna we are still bottom 2 next year.

We simply cant go anyway without getting another at least 6 more good kids into the club.
The short term future is already grim.

Do we want hope for the medium term or not?

Id take pick 19 for Montagna is a heart beat as would Pelchen.

And before anyone squeals 'Melbourne' firstly they are going to be good in a year or two.
Second they offloaded/lost Rivers Moloney Thompson Scully and Mclean all at young ages.
Third they had bad luck with Clark.
Then Neeld.
Then made two 19yos Captain.
So losing Joey will not turn us into Melbourne. But I acknowledge 'Melbourne' scaremongering is a tactic used by peole who do not want to let fo of their emotional attachment to our almost glory years and older players.

Yes i know we will be bottom 2 whether he plays or not. matter of fact i think unless something amazing happens we will finish bottom but im unsure the club can afford to say they have basically let Dal, BJ and Joey go certainly without a fight. No way the bombers are going to give us there only top 30 pick for a 31 year old. Need another club to be interested if we want to let him go. I wouldnt myself.

Just don't see the point in trading out another senior player?

What are we... A meat market for premiership aspirants to feed off

I think Ball, Goddard, Dal Santo and Mac succeeding at other clubs is enough... Montagna might just make me actually pewk!!!

Unless they bring in relegation it hardly matters. We will be bottom 3 next year with or without Montagna.

Can we afford to waste another draft?

How long do we want to down for ?
3 years or 10 ?
Cos three is already locked in but 10 is still open to choice and chance and we need another 6 good young players in the next two years to improve properly.

Before anyone squeals 'Melbourne' which has become the convenient scare campaign for those who cannot let go of he almost glory years and players.

Firstly they are going to be decent next year.
Second they lost Scully Rivers Thompson Mclean Moloney all young.
Third Neeld.
Fourth they made two 19yos Captain.
So we are in no danger of doing a Melbourne.

We will be bad next year though either way. But we need to plan for three or four years away.
If we keep Joey but dont get enough good kids in then we wil still be bad in 5 6 years.
We cant allow that.

ps we may be bottom after tonight. And that's with Joey. So what use is he ? We cant get below bottom.

Mac hasnt succeeded and the Bombers suck hard.
do you propose we just rot on the bottom for a decade?
Have u seen the young players some clubs have?
If we do nothing we will be bottom for a decade.

Do you think if we keep the same squad together the AFL might announce a 2009 re-match or something?

I know its hard for people to let go of the past and the sentiment and the nearly almost flags. But they are gone. They wont come back.
Keeping the sam squad together is comforting for some I know - but its jeopoardising the future.

In five years when Goddard Joey and NDS are all retired and playing golf together - do you still us want us to be on the bottom?

I suppose then you can whinge that we didnt turn over the list quick enough.
