This is probably the most difficult one so far, love them both as i loved watching them both play. Burke tough as nails run hard where as Nicky was silky smooth and would hit a target easy as. Had to pick Winmar in a very very close one.

Winmar wins.

While Winmar should win in a canter, I'd think it was a hard thing for most to knock burkey out so early.
Burkey meant more to the club, but Winmar was enigmatic - when I'd have a kick around I'd be pretending to be Winmar, roosting a sidefooted punt into the fifty or through the goals!

Like the Plugger v Frawley poll, I guess it all comes down that. Although, it hurts to vote against heart and soul player like Burke and Frawley.

It's a bit like having to choose from star and character actors in movies.

Agreed! He was the most graceful player I've ever seen on a footy field.

Was just an absolute natural. The perfect prototype for a player even in today's game IMO.

Kudos to Burkey too though - tough as they come but suffers under an unfair comparison in this match up.

Some of these comparisons are a bit one-sided TBH.
A better match up would be Frawley v Burke, Winmar v Lockett etc.

Has to be Nicky for me... Uber skilled...a magician on the paddock...just as much courage as Burkie...never took a backward step.

Burke was another one of those players who busted a gut every time he stepped on the field. But I think Winmar's arrival at Moorabbin was a turning point for the club. That gave us an unstoppable full forward plus a player who could hit him on the chest 10 times out of 10. I've mentioned before how it was worth going to training just to watch him put on a display of the greatest skills you'd ever want to see.

So true. We go to the footy to see the Lockett's and the Winmar's etc. We don't go to see who Jones is going to tag or Delaney going to keep quiet. In saying that there should be a back men's award.

Enigmatic, how so? He consitently played well week in week out.

Not his form, he had an air of mystery about him, quiet and hard to define.
