I'm hoping for a crowd of 25,000 but I reckon we will get 19,000 (weather permitting).

Be lucky to get 8000, they'll probably claim 12000 though.

So the question is, is it viable once the contract runs out? Obviously we cant have 2 games there as some have wanted. Hopefully most of the 8k are from Australia but then you would argue lets just play it in Cairns and get the money.
Re: Guess the Crowd - Parish/Tucker Cup Anzac Day Clash
I'd think it's not viable, but the money's coming from Wellington City Council. Maybe they think it's a worthy investment of $500k. It could be cheaper than buying a couple of hours of Australian airtime for advertisements.plugger66 wrote:So the question is, is it viable once the contract runs out? I think we should definitely play a couple of games in Cairns each year, if we can get $500k a game there's no real loss there.

I must say I wouldn't be happy with 2 or 3 games, not sure if you want to keep Wellington, out of Melbourne. I think one is enough. Be interesting if it effected memberships.

The tourism would be worth millions to Wellington, even with a small crowd, I think they would keep paying 500k for many years.

Maybe 2 million a year I reckon not counting airfares.dragit wrote:The tourism would be worth millions to Wellington, even with a small crowd, I think they would keep paying 500k for many years.

I reckon it would be a lot more than that, but even if it was only 2 million, that's a good return on 500k investment.plugger66 wrote:Maybe 2 million a year I reckon not counting airfares.dragit wrote:The tourism would be worth millions to Wellington, even with a small crowd, I think they would keep paying 500k for many years.
Most people would spend around $1000+ while there I reckon, then a lot of people would take a holiday somewhere else in NZ while there. Plus all the flights are filled for AirNZ, plus the exposure back here... they would keep doing this for as long as the AFL wanted to IMO.

I allowed for 4000 people at 500 a head. I didn't include flights because people use different airlines.

Agreed, though I think the investment is probably more than $500k - must cost at least a hundred grand to get the ground ready and pay the ground staff.dragit wrote:I reckon it would be a lot more than that, but even if it was only 2 million, that's a good return on 500k investment.plugger66 wrote:Maybe 2 million a year I reckon not counting airfares.dragit wrote:The tourism would be worth millions to Wellington, even with a small crowd, I think they would keep paying 500k for many years.

If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you.
Re: Guess the Crowd - Parish/Tucker Cup Anzac Day Clash
Fine with a temp of 17 degrees with a freshening northerly wind tomorrow in Wellington, so the weather shouldn't really keep anyone from going.
I reckon they'll get 13,000 +

Not good. Welly needs their money also to keep bribing us to play there.tony74 wrote:Very few Blues supporters here at the moment.

How good is Hogan? They have a beauty there. If McCartin can near him eventually I will be very happy. They certainly wont finish last and I don't care what anyone says Roos can coach and coach very well.

Agreed. Hogan looks an absolute beaut. If you were a Dees supporter, wouldn't you just love their captain? What a club man.plugger66 wrote:Bunk_Moreland wrote:Parish/Tucker Cup taking on more significance with the Dees winning last night

And yes Roos has them on the right path. Players make the coach, but he has them looking the goods. Brayshaw seems like he can play as well
