Aside from Longer, this is a more mobile and skillful side than we currently have, what with the likely retirements of Dempster and Fisher at the end of the season and the omission of haphazard kicks such as Gilbert and Geary. It's Weller or Geary for mine as our tagger and the younger man gets the nod, due to his grerater strenght and speed.

I think we will need some serious free agency action next year to help us move up the ladder.

2017 should be the start of our real rise up the ladder. If it doesn't happen next year, support will drop off.

Looks pretty decent, very promising forward line with only Roo to replace from that point. And this team is without a potential high pick this year and maybe a FA if we can snag one at the right price. Maybe Im being overly optimistic but even if a few of those don't make it we have a couple reserves that might, like the ones BM mentioned. I still think Membrey can play and he kicked a bag near the end of VFL last year, then there minch and wright who could step up this year.

Minch, Wright, Templeton are the ones IMO who are still unknowns

They have an opportunity this year to show their capability

Curren, Saunders, Murdoch, Shenton are purely back up players

Pierce, McKenzie, Goddard, McCartin, Rice, Gresham, NOK, White, Payne
Are all just kids developing and have plenty of time

Yes I agree we need it.

But frankly I will be delighted and surprised if any FA who is an out and out star will choose us. They tend to chose clubs that they believe will play finals straight away.
Cats were blessed that Dangerfield wanted live not far from Kardinai Park. We are with the her in Melbourne.

Why do you think the club chased Carlisle (who was not a FA but wanted out) so much? A: we had to settle for someone with flaws.

Still think we need a lock down small defender. So Geary plays until someone else comes along (e.g Rice).
Acres strength is his clearance/stoppage work so I see him as a tall onballer (e.g David Mundy) who can sometimes drift fwd. . Cant seem him making it as a flanker and no chance as a defender.

Thought Gilbert was pretty good on Sunday. Gives us an extra dimension in heavy traffic and his kicking into attack is pretty good.

Brandon White will need time, he's a skinny lad.

Recently spoke to someone close to the Saints - he mentioned that both Goddard & Paddy will be fine, we just need to pump as many games as we can into them this year.
When I asked him about Brandon he did the big exhale and said "he's a bloody beauty, he'll need time. But that boy can kick the footy"
