St Kilda has upgraded Jason Holmes to the senior list under the rules allowing a rookie to be promoted to replace a WADA-suspended player.

Surely Pierce is the next cab off the rank if Hickey has a rest/is injured?

Perhaps he has jumped the queue and is now ahead of Longer?

Wouldn't surprise me, Longer has gone backwards at 100mph this season.

Leuenberger would knock off Pierce if they were only two played and we do not want to give the Dons any any edge over us.

Winning againts the Dons could set us up for a good last two thirds of the year. Losing on the otherhand could see the wheels well and truly fall off.



I wonder if Hickey has pulled up sore and the club may be reluctant to play Longer as he has looked indiferent this season???

Hard to know what the thought process is. Maybe promoted just in case. Longer doesnt seem fit. Perhaps they don't feel that Pierce is AFL ready. At some stage this year they have to decide whether to keep Homes or not, so perhaps he will be given a chance to show what he can do.

They would only promote him if he's playing this week. No reason to do it otherwise.

Holmes won't play this week, he'll be an emergency. Meaning Pierce would be emergency again if he was in the squad. With Sandinrgham having a bye next week Pierce would potentially miss three weeks of footy.

If Holmsey doesn't start dominating the VFL anytime soon I reckon he'll have to be worried about staying on the list. Maybe he'll go back to being an International rookie for one more year.

The interview with Richo yesterday on Saints.com site, Richo was asked about Holmes and his chance of playing. Richo said Hickey had been ill this week, but seeing the match isn't played until Sunday he thought Hickey would be recovered ok - so Holmes is insurance. Obviously Holmes is above the pecking order than Longer.

Richo didn't say Hicky was sore or carrying an injury - just that he had been sick during the week.
