Thoughts on open roof?

We absolutely loved it. Just added to the atmosphere.

Forgot that we were at Etihad and felt like it was the G.

A truly wonderful innovation.
Perhaps they could extend this magnificent new policy to include other venues.

I just want our team to lift the roof off the MCG on the last Saturday of September.

Love the open roof. People complain when it's sunny but I love it. Fantastic venue.

How does a single post get between a double post?

It took me a minute to work out why the ground looked so different - natural light! Loved it - you actually feel like you are outdoors at the footy instead of being in the gloom. Have they had a change of policy as I thought they would have usually closed it with some clouds floating around.

I thought they might be doing it as it was going to be a dry overcast day. They like to close it if it's raining or too sunny.

All my favourite memories of Etihad are with the roof open on sunny days. Kozi, Blake and Milney's final game was a highlight.

Bloody fantastic. Loved it. The MCG in September doesn't have a roof. Need to learn to play better in the elements.

Very impressed with Open Roof today.

Started well with instructions to stay wide open and create air space...very good overhead particularly in the first half. Later in the game was slightly shaded but kept at it and didn't get shut out. Handled the elements well overall and didn't get contained. Finished off strongly and produced some magic from where the sun never shines..

I reckon the players enjoyed the sun in the eyes too

Sucks.

Still, you get a fair idea of how poor and uneven the Etihad playing surface is. No wonder players have trouble reading the ball once it hits the deck.

From the level three wing you could be forgiven for thinking the National Rodeo Championships had been held there over the last week.

It was a perfect day for the roof to be open - no rain, a fair amount of cloud, not hot or too cold.

I reckon it should be our call as the home team to have what we want as a home ground advantage. If we want it open, stuff what the AFL says. They've done bugger all for us so far as that ground is concerned.

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

I really liked it. The sun seemed to affect players a couple of times, but the open roof made for a great feeling. It's nice getting a win on a sunny day.

Might be a stupidly obvious question, but were you CloseTheQuotes on the old St Kilda official forum?

I think it should be always closed as we pay money for top level football and the fact the difference between the sun and shaded areas blinds players and at times makes them look foolish is ridiculous. It is different to other outside venues which have no roof at all and therefore the difference between light and shade aren't so dramatic. Real reason is stadium management want natural light for grass, saves $$$ on those heating lamps being used as much.
