Fyfe to Saints
Has been some rumblings of late and now with andrew welshs tweet last night ...
If Fyfe really is in talks with us thats obviously fantastic and the exact player we need.
I really want to keep Acres though! Acres and fyfe together in the middle at 190cm each with Ross and steven? Delicious!!
I think Acres could be very special.
2 first rounds and Tom Lee? No doubt they need another KDP.
Am I dreaming? Do you we need to give up more?
Throw in one of Lonie, minchy or sinclair.
Just not Acres.

If we trade Acres I won't renew my membership, no kidding.
Obviously would take Fyfe as a free agent.
You want to be careful making deals with the devil, or in this case Ross Lyon.

Re: Fyfe to Saints
If we have already lined up Fyfe as a free agent for 2017, Freo would be dumb to not explore a trade this season.
I don't think we'd have to give up as much as everyone thinks. Freo would rather get something than nothing, and if we've sold the club to Nat, we have the strong bargaining position. It's hard to believe they will be as bad next year as this year, so they'd probably get a pick between 5-10 as compo if he left as a free agent. I think something like 2016 and 2017 first round picks, maybe a a player in our best 15-25 as well ( a Sinclair, Lonie, Pierce type). The guy is 24 and is as good as any player in the comp.
The cash side of things should not be a problem. Since the AFL introduced the rule about banking the unused portion of the cap, i'd like to think we had a long term plan on how to best exploit that (in addition to the cash we removed from Carlisle's deal). It would take a monster deal - something like $6M over 5 or $7M over 6 years, but with coin in the bank we might be able to pay something like $2.5M in the first year and then $900k a year after that.
I like the idea. I'm excited.
(The disclaimer to all of this is getting positive info from medical types - he has to be 100% injury free with no risk of his leg having any lasting side effects....)

Not a comment on the Carlisle deal - just an observation that everyone was saying that we would only need to give up a little to get a lot in that deal as well.

Re: Fyfe to Saints
I wouldn't look at him until I saw him play again. Isn't this his second broken leg? Even if the physical recovery is complete, who knows about the mental side?
Freo would be shrewd to trade him now if they don't think they can keep him - because he would command 2 first round picks and a decent player as a trade. However, would you do such a deal when he is out with a broken leg?
Sure it is probable that he will fully recover and he is a champion, but he could also turn out to be the most massive lemon in history due to injury.
I reckon if Rossy put him up for trade this year, there would be a significant risk that Rossy thinks he'll never get back to what he was.

Re: Fyfe to Saints
I keep thinking about Daisy Thomas at Bluescum.
Do we seriously want to grab somebody based on past performances, when there is a big question mark over his comeback?
Could be the laughing stock of the comp.
Imagine giving them Acres, who could average 26-30 touches per game, while Fyfe in our colours struggles to get through a game, and has to be rested every third game due to soreness, etc.
No, an emphatic NO

Re: Fyfe to Saints
The Welsh tweet makes no mention of Acres. We won't be putting him on the trade table. No need. Fremantle are in rebuild mode they want draft picks IMO. Give them everything we've got this year and next. NF is absolutely worth it. Hope it's true that he wants to come to us. We'd win a premiership with him.0

He maybe ok but I wouldn't trade for him. Take him as a FA for sure. Not convinced he will be the same player after all the injury issues.
