Hopper while still young, for me..

Shiel and Kelly will cost too much in terms of trade

Hopper for one of our 2017 first rounders and keep the other for the draft

I started a thread on this earlier, Con. The only way we'll keep the GWS from consuming the competition is to regularly raid its playing stocks. Every club should make a concerted effort to target at least one GIant every year. That will keep them in check and give the rest of us a fighting chance. Shiel or Kelly next year, rather than Fyfe.

we seem to be in the bargain hunter market and have a good strike rate of late but I don't think we willl find a bargain here with every club looking to stock up. Are we prepared to make a large leap of faith offer like the dogs did, or are we gonna tip toe around it and end up with nothing.

Facts are gws cannot for everyone in. Cameron on big money, those coming out of contract will attract large offers and they have to keep in mind Toby Greene and lachie Whitfield coming out of contract the following year.

Current contract statuses are found here https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/ ... s.1008964/

Having 2 first round picks, plus the potential to trade 2018's first rounder, opens up all sorts of avenues for Ameet. (I know, the rules say we probably can't trade all 3, but who really knows??)

We need it to play out the same way as Jack Steele did - the jungle drums were beating loudly and early on that one, but he came out and declared the Saints were his new home, and other clubs let it be. Although we will probably have the best currency in the league available to us, we need to avoid bidding wars to get max value for "money".

There's no doubt one of these GWS guns is gettable, we have the picks and the cap space to get it done.

Ok I was bored but given most pundits (and bookies) have GWS as firm favourites for the flag I thought it would be worthwhile doing the old man v man assessment.

I was pleasantly surprised that we actually come out ok.

Let me know what you think.

yep, giving GWS half a dozen first round picks every year is certain to see them bottom out.

We can only try, Saynta. We can only try. It is hard when they finishe third and still get academy players, multiple high draft picks etc. Gillon the polo player is determined to see them succeed, isn't he?

I reckon S, that as WW pointed out in the other thread he alludes to (and no doubt he'll correct me if I've got this wrong :) ), the aim is that they permanently (or as permanently as possible) remain with a list overloaded with 18-20 years old high draft pick, prime talent players... who are then poached just as they are about to blossom.

I.e.; The Wogans put in the hard yards developing elite talent... then when they're 'ripe', they're plucked away by the rest of the competition.

This is the issue the Sons of Beaches are currently having. Not helped by tying up their salary cap with a bloke who is nearing the end of his career... and doesn't even want to be there. Also not helped by their choice of coach.

 (Crocodile tears. Help. I'm drowning in them.)

Hi con,
Living in nsw and having both nsw teams on free to air every week means being force fed a lot of GWS. Unfortunately I reckon most of those match ups end up on the GWS side at the moment.

Exception would clearly be roo/lids, and I reckon Steven/Shiel, dunstan/hopper, geary/shaw and membrey/Steve j would be pretty even, but the rest the giants win.
The good thing is that a lot of our boys could close the gap quickly if our 2015/16 improvement curve continues.

Any of three unconcracted mentioned would be good, but I still say Devon Smith is the lad we need - a faster and more aggressive version of Billings!
