Positives from round 5
1. Sinclair.A return to form. Dare ice coffee player of the round. http://www.saints.com.au/video/2018-04- ... ay-round-5
2. Hickey. Great to have a ruckman who can win possessions around the ground.
3. Mav. Hits you like a freight train
4. Long. Ditto, his best game yet
5. White. Also his best game. A real warrior with class despite what some on here have stated,
6. Coff and Clarke. Enough said.
7. Acres. Getting better every week but stop using him in the ruck ffs.
8. Seb. A return to top form
9. Richo let go the reins a it and the players responded.

Agree with most of this but I like Acres in the ruck, he holds his own in ruck contests, he is so strong and can protect the drop of the ball, plus it gives us an extra mid.saynta wrote:1. Maybe - but just maybe Sincs needs to be silky and clever - not a bull at the ball.spert wrote:Sinclair needs to look at how White or Long tackles- one aspect of Sinclair's game that needs improving
I agree he could tackle better - but if it is at the expense of his ball usage - leave him as he is!!!!!
We don't need 15 inside mids - we need class and silk!

Every chance to drive your opponent into the ground should be taken!Sainter_Dad wrote:Maybe - but just maybe Sincs needs to be silky and clever - not a bull at the ball.spert wrote:Sinclair needs to look at how White or Long tackles- one aspect of Sinclair's game that needs improving

I agree with that - but if it is not a natural instinct, then trying to teach it may take away another aspect of his game.spert wrote: Every chance to drive your opponent into the ground should be taken!
Grew up with some beautiful bulldog tacklers - and some beautiful kicks.
Saw one coach stifle a kids creativity and silkiness by trying to make him something he was not.
Not saying it will happen - but sometimes the player just does not have the mongrel in him - and if that is the case - I would rather that he plays the game that we recruited him for (and I still don't believe we got him through the Rookie Draft) than he become 'just another tackle machine'.

Great game from Sincs. Back to his best. Saw him attack the loose ground ball and he was clean and made good decisions
Blighty agrees with Sainter_Dad; too much emphasis on tackling
I wouldn't mind a guy called Menzel in my team. Apparantly he is too busy with footy in hand to worry about tackling

Menzel was a classic case of AFL group think.Scollop wrote:Great game from Sincs. Back to his best. Saw him attack the loose ground ball and he was clean and made good decisions

The herd all went along with the idea he didn't tackle so nobody wanted him.
We could have got him cheap.

Coffield. If only we had another two of him. This is one the coach got right. Expressed his admiration for the boy last year. Went to watch him a few times, did AR. I wouldn't go so far as to suggest he insisted on his selection at the draft, but he insisted on his selection at the draft. Bravo!

Re: Positives from round 5
very pleased with the harder attack by sinclair - laid more tackles than long or white by a bit, so don't think he needs to be as manic - just effective, which he was. to my mind his best game for us.
long an excellent break out game which has been building. now to keep up that level.
white also stood out as his best game and a big step up.
coffield is class. hunter less ready.
a decent hickey makes a world of difference to us - basically an extra man on the field.
mav will have to show more than one game to convince me, but more of it please.
gilbert i was also happy with - was immense in the last quarter.
and paddy - really happy for him to be our dominant forward in a game. again, need more of it.
and steele as well.
none of the above have played a real good game of footy this year, bar coffield, so let's hope they have found their spark and keep it lit.
we have bruce, roberton, webster, and marshall back pushing for spots soon and a few players yet to play close to potential this year - newnes, billings, and gresh. We didn't miss newnes at all last game, hopefully even if fit he gets a rest at sandy.

Mate I haven’t given up on 2018 yet. We’re a dangerous side when we are on and if we can back up with a win this week we’re not too far behind the crowd.mullet wrote:Lets just keep playing these kids will make for a very good 2019

Maybe, but 11 tackles is a huge workrate.
