Saints v Demons - Round 7

Post: # 1723361Post Devilhead »

Firstly a big thanks to the Bummers for playing the Dees back into form

Now for changes -

Drop Weller for Marshall who must play along with Hickey to counter Gawn

Drop Gresham for Armo to give us more grunt in the middle

Play Coffield forward - he has shown he can kick goals in the TAC Cup

Put a hard tag on Hibberd by Gilbert

Let Steele go head to head with Oliver

Sinclair to play permanent forward

Acres to play wing midfield with a licence to go forward

That's all at this stage

Coff forward is a no from me.

Already our most reliable with ball in hand across half back.

At least he will kick a goal then

Touché.

If the the others manage to kick over the jam tin that is the opposition forwards.

Now for changes -

Drop Weller for Marshall who must play along with Hickey to counter Gawn
** Marshall in but not sure if Weller should be dropped. There were worse than him out there

Drop Gresham for Armo to give us more grunt in the middle
** I would drop Gresham but not for Armo. Richo admitted we put him back in to early plus I would prefer to see some younger players get games, maybe hunter

Play Coffield forward - he has shown he can kick goals in the TAC Cup
** disagree. He is a back and a good one. Leave him there as it ain't broke don't fix

Put a hard tag on Hibberd by Gilbert
**don't know if I would put Gilbert as a hard tag on Hibbert. Shame Koby Stevens is injured, he is so underrated as a tagger

Let Steele go head to head with Oliver
** Done

Sinclair to play permanent forward
**Done

Acres to play wing midfield with a licence to go forward
**Not sure where to play acres. He seems to do OK in most areas but hasn't really been amazing in any. Maybe wing will be his thing

That's all at this stage
**Surprised you didn't say drop Billings as he is so crap at the moment. Sandy time for him to get his form back.

As poor as his kicking for goal has been Billings at least has had equal to or the most shots on goal from anyone in the team for the last 2 weeks running - he must be doing something right to be having these shots - would prefer to keep him in for that fact alone

Our mids kicking goals has been non existent

Steven 4
Dunstan 3
Steele 2
Hickey 1
Ross 0

That's brilliant but I have a feeling that Richo will play it safe. He'll be conservative, dish up the same game plan with guys playing in the same positions and get the same result that everyone expects... which is a commendable loss by under 6 goals

I hope our coaches can come up with some surprises and at least be bold enough to mix things around. Attack the footy and attack the goals. Stick it through hard and stick it through fast. Stick it up anyone and everyone!

Have a game plan based on using maximum energy to run in packs to attack rather than maximum energy and pressure to defend. Plan it, discuss it, have buy in from all players, own the plan and then execute. Go Saints

O.K. This will cause a barrage of criticism but it’s the fact. Nothing wrong with the coaches, nothing wrong with the game plan, nothing wrong with team selection. What is fundamentally wrong is the skill level and confidence. It’s deplorable. Absolutely deplorable. And they all know it.

That does not cut it Tony.

These guys have been de-skilled under this coaching panel.

Fair dinkum, if the team had a skilled, hard and experienced captain, he could be the playing coach too, and still do better than these bunch of duds.

Stick a good pair of eyes with a phone in the stands and it's a no brainer.

The club would do better and save $2 million a year.

It's one thing knowing it and it's another doing something about it

Apart from a couple of players all the others need their contracts ripped up and replaced with performance based contracts - Might get them interested in doing something about it ..... coaches included

Mental toughness comes from believing in yourself and knuckling down and doing the work. Both skills and confidence will improve with more practice. Get the players off the playstations and get them thinking about solutions, writing down solutions and practicing more with footies in hand

Do you know why Marshall wasn't selected after a good showing against Adelaide and 1st half against Geelong?

Any indication as to what the players are going to do to change their ball butchering and braindead decision making?

So I don't see anyone dropping Billings here.

That is a problem.

If we dropped Billings we would currently be having 4 to 5 less shots at goal a game ..... which equates to 9 to 10 less pts or 20 - 25% of our score

How does Skunk go from our leading goal-scorer
to another fumbling Basil Fawlty?
How do all these players keep missing targets?
The coaches have not 'developed' anyone,
they have "regressed" them
or made them go backwards at an astonishing rate.

Coaches have one job- to coach.

When these skills and development coaches finish up at St Kilda, how are they going to get another job in the industry using their work at St Kilda as a reference.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

The talk about the players having more input in the game plan is all about players buying in and feeling empowered, but also it helps to simplify things. It helps them enjoy their footy and get back to playing on instinct. Cut back on some of the time used for meetings. Cut back on some of the complex game plan stuff and get back to basic skills and basic practicing of your skills

That is why, Wayne42, the St.Kilda Football Club has been the Bermuda Triangle of the competition for many an aspiring coach. Good men have entered with strong reputations, only to have their careers vanish without a trace. RL the only survivor of this mysterious phenomenon that I can think of.

3 behinds he is worth.

Needs to go to sandringham until he kicks six goals three weeks in a row.
