Probably about half the number of say Collingwood or Essendon. It is getting quite ridiculous.

We do need a Manager for putting things of top of other things though.

Apparantly the Saints are only mid rung in the off field staff stakes. Imagine what the bigger clubs are like then. Lol.

Danny Sexton has been at the club since 2006 - that is 12 years and for much of that time he has had a key role in player development, he is currently Director of Coaching. According to Google Sexton was drafted by North Melbourne in 1990 but never actually got to play senior footy. Irrespective of his coaching qualifications, and no doubt he has done all the theory, I am amazed that he is considered to have the personal experience to be a coach at senior AFL level. I can't think of any AFL coach in the modern era who has not played at senior level who has been a successful AFL coach, and yet St Kilda appointed him as Director of Coaching, overseeing the entire coching panel!

Furthermore, in the 12 years that Sexton has been a key figure involved in player development, St Kilda's record in developing new and emerging talent, including a bunch of early draft picks, has by any measure been lamentable. Apart from Gresham, I can't think of one other young recruit who has 'been developed" into a quality player within 3 years - unlike all of the top teams who achieve a high success rate with new recruits. Further evidence of this is the resurgence of North Melbourne in 2018 who were not considered to challenge for the top 8.

If Richo is going to survive this season and the next, the club needs to take a close hard look at making changes to the coaching panel, as did Essendon recently, and shoud look no further than the Diretor of Coaching to provide the required circuit breaker. For my money, I would go all out to recruit David King into that position forthwith - his anayisis of the game is second to none and woild be of enormous benefit to Richo.

Alright, let's not cloud this discussion with arguments about David King's qualities, I don't really care who they get, but I'm quite convinced that the current "Director of Coaching and Player Development" is the one that should be dismissed, or as is the way in these sensitive times, "given the opportunity to resign", lest he feel a sense of humiliation...surely it must it must be time for him to spend more time with his family....

Twelve years at the one club is far too long for any coach, least of all at a club that has fallen in a heap in a year that the club assured supporters that the Saints would challenge for top 4! The trouble with being a coach at the Saints for 12 years straight is that he has outlasted 3 senior coaches and in the culture of AFL teams that means he wields a hell of a lot of power - he knows where all the skeletons are buried, and has become so entrenched in the club that no-one would dare to contradict him. Such is his influence that I imagine that apart from player development he is involved in all the key areas - recruiting, team selections, match day strategies across all areas of specialist coaches. Unless things change he is also likely to see off Richo as well.

Great post St Kev, I didnt see a bootstudder on that list though...( been a while since I played the game). It is bulls*** that is why I cancelled my membership, just a total waste of money on people who dont impact on the clubs performance and just hide in the system. With the saints playing stocks and ladder position at a 5 year low , a cleanout should begin right now across the board ( pardon the pun)
