Pick 5 2010 draft. 25 years old.
You would think all we could offer would be a future 2nd rounder (2019) or maybe a future 1st rounder (2019) with Ports 2nd rounder coming back this year ...... or a player swap with picks (Dunstan??)

2 issues here: -Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Wed 27 Jun 2018 8:53pmHow many HBF does one club need FFS? I would only agree to this if they traded Geary out for him.
The answer is at least two. Two good HBF's. It could be argued that Webster is one. The other is Savage. Polec is a waaay better version of Savage. We also have Robbo but I'm doubtful he'll play again (if you can't diagnose a condition - it's very hard to sign-off on a return from said undiagnosed condition).
The other issue is Geary. You might find a willing suitor for Gears but, there wouldn't be a whole heap coming back the other way. He's also a RFA so, if we wanted to punt him - he could effectively walk free to his preferred club by nominating a price. I'd actually just wish Coach Beige and his incompetents would realise that they could re-deploy Gears as a Ben Jacob's style tagger and/or a defensive pressure lock-down forward (surely he'd make a better fist of that than Mav).
Unlikely to happen though - they're all too rose-coloured glasses down there to realise that plan A isn't working.

Re: Jared Polec
Polec could play on a wing. The guy is lightning quick and takes it on. Sign him up for 500k a year for 4-5 years. Takes him to around age 30.
We need a line breaker that can play on the outside.

Sort of like a Savage replacement? Quick outside player.
More injured than Savage but better output?

Re: Jared Polec
He is a not a signed and sealed HBF, he can play wing and he is a runner and can kick a goal. Besides that you need skilled players at half back now to transition the ball. Geary is not one so Polec could replace him for sure. Does get injured a bit but has 5 yrs left. He would be worth 500k a year.

We’re in the box seat, if he comes to us.
We still might miss out on him though if he doesn’t.

Re: Jared Polec
Polec is a genuine talent and would be an enourmous get for our team. Great Teams arnt built on brilliant individuals they are built in brilliant list management and ‘balance’. Polec’s class is what we need on a wing/half forward. Very quick and very nice by foot. Not much worse than Gaff.
We are in the box seat for no other reason than we have cash and he would be a big fan of Richo through his coaching days at port.
He is worth a future second.

We have a history of paying overs to Port Adelaide
Remember the Barry Brooks deal ?
...and at this stage it looks like we paid overs for Logan Austin - particularly with the talent floating around in the draft this year.

Yeah, he must have been thinking of playing in the saints colours next year.
Noticed the two of them having a bit of a chuckle.

Re: Jared Polec
I have been watching Polec and his ball use is not great. As a free agent maybe, but as a trade, no way.

I think Polec is a good player but maybe his average field kicking is not what we need.

Re: Jared Polec
This story is gaining momentum the same way it does for every other potential recruit (FA or not) we chase from a rival club and the outcome is still always the same - we don't get them.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Tue 10 Jul 2018 7:46pm https://www.zerohanger.com/reports-pole ... pen-21739/
Story is gaining momentum.
From what I hear, Polec is after a longer term deal and after re-signing Wines, Port are struggling to find a way to offer him one. But, he did leave the Lions to go back to his home state, so this just reads to me as Polec turning up the burners on Port. Even if they can't offer him a 4 or 5 year deal, I can't see him leaving.
Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.
