Has been a loyal servant & made the most of his ability but the time has come IMO to say thank you for your effort but its time to move to the next chapter of the Sam Gilbert story.

Re: Sam Gilbert
I would have preferred the club to have made an announcement well BEFORE the game.
Give the CS a chance to farewell him on the banner.
Let him lead the team out.
Maybe do the coin toss.
Then a lap of honour/ guard of honour at the end.
Instead it looks like the Roos will do all that for Waite, whilst Gilbo will be quietly knifed before trade week without any chance for a public farewell which is a shabby way to treat a 200 gamer.

Yes, it is a bit strange and hard to work out the reasoning but fair to say that tomorrows game will be his last with the saints. They should be making the decision for him not wait around until trade week. Typical saints bulls***.

Gee you're a twat. He gave his all ( just like you said ) in some fantastic finals and was a great contributor to many of our best victories.
Whether you don't think he's a good footballer now or in the last few years or not, this is not the time to be a f***wit

Re: Sam Gilbert
Has he announced his retirement? I thought he said he wanted to go on. It's probably time, but they are likely doing the sensible thing and waiting to see how trade week pans out. Same with other clubs whose older players are on the edge but want to go on. "Farewells" on the last game are really for players who have announced their retirement - Waite.

Gilbo should be delisted by us - but given GC are such rubbish they may take him on for one year.
I highly doubt Gilbo would just retire on his own accord.

Gee what , you have resorted to name calling and personal abuse, how articulate. I got a week off here for that rubbish but a worrior like you gets away with it. Keep lowering yourself to the gutter. I love it. This is why saints have not been any good for years, years and years. Keyboard worriors like yourself know nothing about the game but prepared to make out you do and hang onto players who are past their use by date or support players who will not take the club forward. Just keep on doing that and I will will just read and laugh. Might have to go back through your posts and see if there is a pattern there, I am sure there will be.Scollop wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 12:47amGee you're a twat. Re: Sam Gilbert
I agree with Scollop - it is your post that has lowered you to the gutter. "there are a better footballers than him retiring FFS, give it away Gilbert" - what sort of comment is that for a 200 game veteran that has been a great servant of the club? Talk about keyboard warrior with no respect - how many AFL games did you play? Who stated we should definitely hang onto Gilbo for next year?chico2001 wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 12:23pmGee what , you have resorted to name calling and personal abuse, how articulate. Re: Sam Gilbert
Should has been chaired off the ground today! No announcement made about his retirement though?
However, it's disgusting to mention a poor pass on gf 1, when he kicked three goals to get us into the game that ended up the draw!
Sam has been a soldier and a great player, in comparison to some of our marshmallows!
Played out of position for ten years!! Did well.

I don't remember him kicking three goals. Three goals sounds like half our scoreboard from that day.mbogo wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 9:47pm Should has been chaired off the ground today! No announcement made about his retirement though?

Probably because he didn't, he kicked one goal in GF 1: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2 ... 00925.htmlTrixilver wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 9:52pmI don't remember him kicking three goals. 'Warrior'. That's how to spell the word.chico2001 wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 12:23pmGee what , you have resorted to name calling and personal abuse, how articulate. If a keyboard warrior like yourself thinks that a bloke who has given his all for over 200 games for the St Kilda football club doesn't deserve respect, then I think perhaps it shows that you don't know the meaning of the word and you probably show a lot of disrespect to people in real life.
My feelings on Gilbo the person versus his worth to the team and his value to the team going forward are 2 very different things. I love the courage and effort and hardness that he's brought to every contest and I was there at the final siren to give him a cheer and a round of applause as he went down the race for the last time in 2018.
By the way...this is my post on Gilbo and my opinion on whether he should have been kept on the list in 2017-2018

Re: Sam Gilbert
Did well tonight and the Moorabbin wing gave him rousing cheers (not jeers!) every time he got near it.
If that’s the end I’ll be disappointed he didn’t get an appropriate send off. He may occasionally butcher it but he’s given his all for us.

Re: Sam Gilbert
He should get another year, even if he only gets 6 games
A 200 gamer who can help show the way
All year people have been saying how we should have kept one of 11,12 or 24 and missed that experience
Without 19 we will have no 200ers and a couple over 150

Can't belive Saints team stood there and waited on the other side of the ground for Waite to give him a bloody send off. What for? Guy hasn't even played 200 games? Our blokes should have done a guard of honour for Gilbo
His kicking was bloody brilliant tonight as well. Well done Gilbo

Re: Sam Gilbert
Worrier deliberately spelt that way, maybe you should check your own spelling in the above sentence especially the second word "belive" You are not the smart type that is for sure. Maybe you need to ask the saints players why they ignored Gilbert.Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 27 Aug 2018 12:39am Can't belive Saints team stood there and waited on the other side of the ground for Waite to give him a bloody send off. In fact why not keep the whole list and extend all of their contracts....once again a case or red white and black glasses, instead of objectively looking at a player's skill and ability , with the goal of a premiership.
I read this kind of s*** all too often on this forum
Probably loves Newnes too lmao

Re: Sam Gilbert
I will give Newnes his due, he can kick a decent long straight ball most of the time and has some skills that Gilbert never learnt but unfortunately he went down hill real quick and I am not sure he will come back to his previous best, just cant get the pill often enough.
