I'll back Barry, but all 3 will get there eventually.

Legend inductees. There's one clear and glaring omission that needs to be put right.

Leading goal kicker.
Multiple club Best and Fairest awards.
State representative.
Coach.
Committeeman.
President.
Winner of the medal awarded by the League for being the best player in the whole competition... twice.

Agreed!
One thing that bugs me about "Long" Dave is the "wasted" year of 1913.
He left StKilda to play for Essendon Association from 1909 to 1912 in the VFA (where he won two flags, kicked 107 goals in a season, 95 in another, and 18 in one game).

In 1913 he wanted to come back to StKilda, but a contract dispute with Essendon meant they wouldn't release him so he stood aside for 1913. He did however briefly become our very first official coach in 1913 till George Sparrow started the first of his three spells as our coach. DMac later coached us in 1922/23.

He finally came back to StK in 1914 as a player.

But 1913 was the year we made the final 4 and won our way into the Final (which retrospectively became the Prelim) where we beat Fitzroy by 25 points. Fitzroy being on top of the H&A ladder had the right to challenge and despite a late surge we lost the play-off (Grand Final) by 13 points.

One can but wonder what would have happened if the dual "Champion of the Colony" had been playing in that GF!!

Note : Long Dave won his dual CotC's (ie Brownlows) in 1907 and 1914 so he would have been in his prime in 1913.

The 1913 side had some exceptional talent.
- Bob Bowden (150 gamer - and remember they were only 18 round seasons with less finals in those days and the war cut short careers)
- Roy "up there" Cazaly (198)
- Vic Cumberland (176)
- Gordon Dangerfield (158)
- Wels Eicke (218)
- Harry Lever (also 218)
- George Morrissey (93)
- Billy Schmidt (165)
- Bill Woodcock (155)

Sorry for the history lesson but the Dave McNamara "blocked clearance" is the first of those sliding door moments that cost us 5 flags.

I like history lessons. :)

What I can add... https://australianfootball.com/articles ... itzroy/657

Apparently, after easily beating the Lions, the forced replay was considered a shoe-in. So much so that the boys hit the champagne... before the game. Took them nearly three quarters to sober up a bit, but then they came roaring home. Got to within a point deep in the final quarter. One of our blokes took a mark very close to goal, no great angle. Slot it, and we probably win.

For reasons unknown, he instead chose to handball to a team mate in the square. (Who handballed back then??? ) The team mate was surrounded. Ball rebounds for a Lion's goal. Then another on the siren. Sound familiar?

Only at St Kilda...

I was really sorry I couldn’t go to this and I’ve just watched the videos they have posted - feeling very nostalgic! Looking forward to seeing the Harvs/Burkey speeches.

The love in the room forJohn Beveridge was also fantastic.

Silverwear or not, what an era that was.

By my calculations, these guys played together only 3 times for just one win. Round 5-7 2001.

I suspect the 3 youngest ones subset were more than 100 times more successful than the group.
