Our medical team

Post: # 1776809Post Gershwin »

Paddy McCartin - 'get him to wear a helmet - he'll be fine'
Dylan Roberton - 'a pacemaker will do the trick'
Jake Carlisle - '5 months of jogging and he will be as right as rain'
Dan Hannebery - 'modified program and he'll be ready to go'
Jack Bytel - 'just needs to do a few stretches and he'll be up and running'
Max King - ''bit of time on the exercise bike and Bob's your uncle'

Honestly!

In fairness, which of these is really their fault?

Paddy seems more injury prone then anything else

Dylan... well it’s hardly the medicos fault and I haven’t read anything to suggests Dylan not feeling right is related to his heart

Carlisle, well typically surgery isn’t the preferred option to an injury that could heal without it. I don’t know that I would blast the medicos for attempting the non-surgical approach first then reacting when it didn’t work

Hannebery’s problems came to us... and my impression is their being ultra conservative which is pbly the correct approach. After the Freeman saga the one thing I can say definitely about our team is that they effectively manage soft tissue injuries

Bytel and King came to us with injuries.

What exactly are you upset about?

Arguably THE worst OP I've ever read.

Devoid of any sense whatsoever.

In order I'm upset about:
Carlisle - they went for the non-surgical approach and got it wrong. He has been in considerable pain for 5 months poor bloke.
Roberton - the jury is out but heart issues are life-threatening. Hope they haven't stuffed up by giving him the OK to play on.
Hannebery - they would have had input into his recruitment and it isn't a secret that his body is shot
Paddy - concussion is so dangerous and many have stopped playing football and it is looking more and more like that is a strong option for Paddy.
Bytel - significant back problem - they would have had input into his recruitment.
King - should be OK. Not so worried about him but may not see him in the seniors this season. A season that is so important to us.

Hard to understand what you’re actually bothered about.

The only case that you could definitively be annoyed about is Carlisle... but like I said, I think any reasonable medical professional would have attempted the least invasive treatment options first and reacted accordingly.

I don’t get it.

OK. I'm not going to try and help you 'get it'. Cheers.

Get snippy about it if you want but at the end of the day you’re the one blaming the medical staff for stuff that is essentially out if their control

Based on their track records with soft tissue injuries over the last 3 years, I actually think they’ve performed pretty well

My criticism is aimed at the recruiting staff who believe our medical team can work miracles.

I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous.
McCartin - The helmit is the ONLY thing the medical team can possibly do to try and mitigate the chances of him not getting a concussion
Roberton - Do you honestly believe that our medical team are the only ones making decisions on Dylans wellbeing? He is definitely seeing a cardiologist who would've had to have signed off on him even training again
Carlisle - As many have already said, back surgery is the absolute last option for an injured back. I suffer from a disc bulge and have been told by my back specialist to absolutely avoid surgery.

And WTF with King?????? He is coming back from an ACL, the program would've been set up 12 months ago.

You don’t think our medical team had input into the recruiting of Hannebery and Bytel? King should be ok.

I didn’t say that, undoubtedly they did.

The injuries to the guys listed above are not as the result of negligence or incompetence of our medical staff.

Bytel and King came to the club injured and they pbly signed off on the idea that these guys would be fine long term

Hannebery is pbly a longer term project... he came to us with a sustained patch injury effected seasons and by all accounts keeping that in mind, they’re reportedly being super cautious with him

Dylan... whilst everyone is concerned RE his heart, my recollection is that they’ve always been a bit iffy as to why what happened happened as he was fine immediately after. Even now, the feedback was that he didn’t feel right... it’s not an indictment on anyone. There’s every chance that’s it’s Dylan being hyper aware of his situation

Carlisle... it’s documented and Paddy it looks like there is no saving.

What are you upset with the medical staff about.

Tell me specifically the decision they made that is wrong

A four year deal for Hannebery is simply mind blowing for anyone who actually watched him play last season.

And that was 100% Lethlean's doing.

Cant blame the poor medical staff for that one.

It would be nice if we could stop bringing players to the club with pre-existing conditions...
