Best 22 for back end of season when players return?

Post: # 1794356Post Joffa Burns »

Paddy & Dylan - season.

Assuming Geary, Lonie, Carslile, Steven & Hannebery are fit, what does our best 22 look like?

B: Geary Brown Webster
HB: Savage Battle McKenzie
C: Acres Ross Billings
HF: Membrey Bruce Gresham
F: Lonie Carslile Parker

R: Marshall Steele Steven

INT: Dunstan Wilkie Long Sinclair

EMG: Hannebery Paton Marsh Phillips Kent Young Clark Coffield King

The club is building a fair bit of depth with Clark & Coffield likely to be best 22 next year or the year after.
Plenty of small forward depth with Long, Young and Kent as back up.
Probably a versatile tall short and maybe Marsh will be that player.
Lots of small defenders potential mids with Paton, Phillips, Clark & Coffield.

We just lack some real midfield class.

Mines pretty close and the back 6 unchanged from what you had. I want the starting mids to be all hard bodied blokes who can win the footy. Dunny and Gresh play in the centre and rotate with Blake, Steven and Steele (I've thrown Seb out of the starting midfield). Yes, I know controversial but we can't beat the better teams atm so may as well try different combinations.

If we are close to playing finals then you reward VFL form and you drop anyone who isn't pulling their weight in the seniors (that includes Nathan Brown). Will be difficult to drop Wilkie and Marsh as both have been very good. Maybe fitness or injury means they make way for others.

I'd keep Kent in the team as he's starting to show good synergy and his defensive work has been good lately. If Lonie rips it up in the VFL then perhaps he replaces him, but only if Kent is sore or not working hard enough

I've also thrown Seb in the forward line but he still assists around some stoppages up and down the ground and provides another option out of defense and also an option to goal. He is fit enough to work both ways. I also think Newnes is slightly ahead of a few others and he stays in the team for mine. Was putting on some good tackles on Sunday and just slightly ahead of a few of the younger boys.

B: Geary Brown Webster
HB: Savage Battle DMac
C: Newnes Acres Billings
HF: Ross Bruce Gresham
F: Kent Carslile Membrey

R: Marshall Steele Steven
INT: Dunstan Wilkie Long Sinclair

EMG: White Paton Marsh Clark

Wilkie ahead of D Mac.
Anout the best kick in the team.

DMac is a lock in our best 22. His intercept marking and courage in the air has been a highlight. Will only get better with games.

Hannebery is in our best 5 if he is fit, let alone 22.

A few posters jumping the gun on Hannas. Call me a pessimist, however I think he'll play seniors and come good eventually. It just won't be this year. Let's hope he doesn't end up like the previous number 10 who we thought (back when he was first recruited) was also going to be best 22.

At his best he is our best player!
I very much doubt he will ever get back to anywhere near his best give the past two and a bit seasons decline and the nature of his soft tissue injuries.

If he gets back to 90% he'd still be a valuable acquisition.
But that is the $800,000 question.

Looking forward to seeing if he plays for Sandy on Sunday.

Based on the heading of best 22 when players return you can only assume playing to potential for those who haven't player yet and those that have judged on 2019 form. That said:

B: Geary, Brown, Battle
HB: Savage Carlisle Webster
C: Billings, Ross, Lonie
HF: Hannebury Membrey, Gresham
F: Parker, Bruce, Kent
Foll: Marshall, Steele, Steven
Int: Dunstan, Wilkie, Acres, Sinclair

Emerg: McKenzie, Newnes, Paton, Long

Gone Wilkie over McKenzie purely as Wilkie better kick. Both good over head .
Sinclair scapes in over Newnes and Long. ( Richo will never let it happen.. haha)

Clarke not given chance and i have based 19 on performance .
King not yet ready
Coffield, Rice, White not given a chance so far so clearly judged not good enough by selection staff

I would play Battle over Brown and include another small but good team.

That's the one. Battle up forward to even out the talls in the forward and back halves.
