Nick Hind. Matt Parker. Cal Wilkie.

Think we found another player here in Hind.
Along with Parker and Wilkie.

They just need to get as many games into these 3 mature aged picks as possible, even if they drop off at times given it's their first AFL season.

All three look like beauties.

Like you said however, they’re all 1st year players so chances are form will fluctuate but that’s ok. Nothing wrong fine tuning ur game at Sandy and getting a recall... formula has worked for over 100 years.

We look so much quicker with Hind and Parker in the team. Just need a few more, and for them to be mids.

Will be even better with another preseason or two under their belts.

Hind is as good as anything we’ve seen over the last 6 years or so.

Was calling for Hind to play from round 4 onwards. Imagine if he had played all those games instead of Newnes.

He might have been dropped if Newnes hadn't stepped down

Surely an indictment on all at the club considering he's 24....

We've effectively fast tracked our deveolpment with this group of mature age recruits. They've all shown enough that they can become an integral part of our next push for finals. This is one thing the club can hang it's hat on. We've still to see what King and Bytle can offer. This draft could go down as one of the clubs best, in recent years.

Nick and Cal will be 100 game players.
Not so sure about Matty, but hope he does, because he’s full on!

Needs to work on the basics, like converting those opportunities into goals.
I'm a big fan of his too, but he needs to make more of the limited opportunities he gets. That will give him an edge over his opponents if he can. He will become more dangerous if he can do what Sydney Stack does, kick four goals.

Young I have doubts on but he could surprise next year. It's a big step up AFL from state footy. Massive actually.

The 3 I mentioned will be a part of our next finals tilt. They will at least be in that best squad of 25-26 players going forward.

Yep. Well done to the club on that drafting and getting those boys ready for AFL footy. Big tick.

You dont think thats its an issue that with all of our high end draft picks etc we've had in the past 6 years that a 24yo drafted at pick 54 is as good as we've seen?

Not to mention that it took until after round 10 for him to be selected for a game.

True - but that's coming from a very low comparative base. We've slaughtered a lot of drafts so, to finally nail one would be a welcome change. Although not technically a draftee - getting Wilkie for free is now looking inspired. He seems like the guy who won't get dropped until he retires (a bit like Andrew Thompson)

I'm ok with awarding praise where it's deserved (as in the drafting part) but they're mature age acquisitions - I'm not entirely sure we can take credit for getting them ready for AFL footy

Sydney Stack plays in front of Cotchin, Martin et al. Parker plays in front of Dunstan and Ross. I found Martin's field kicking an absolute joy to watch yesterday - the speed his 45m passes get to his teammates is crazy - it's gives them the extra 1/2 a second to position themselves or take it already on the run.

Ross and Dunstan on the otherhand can't hit a barn door from 20m - let alone with any speed or penetration. Until we can acquire midfielders who can deliver the ball with either speed or at the very least, to our forwards' advantage - we're always going to have to rely on this effort rubbish (which eventually just wears the players out)

No, in fact the opposite. Most early draft picks pick themselves and the ranking order doest vary too much from recruiter to recruiter. The real test of a recruiter is who they identify beyond the second round.
The fact that our current recruiter picked hindafter he was overlooked for 5 years and then at 54, is amazing but Hind needs to be congratulated as it is he who has done the hard yards.
The fact that they waited until he sustained his good form before selection, and subsequent success is testament to the good selection policy

Seb's disposal yesterday was actually quite good.
