I’m sure she knows her stuff, but prefer someone who has played the game at the highest level

Not playing the game at the highest level is not the issue - if Craig Bellamy came out tomorrow and said he wanted to be St Kilda's coach, I'd pay his salary myself.

But if her coaching ability was so impressive, not only would she still be involved with the mens program, her position and responsibility would have increased in her time employed by St Kilda. But it hasnt, she was bought in to a development role in 2014 and since then she's been moved sideways (possibly promoted, depending on how you look at it) to the Womens side, firstly in the VFLW and now almost in the AFLW.

Womens side will win the flag in their first season.

Take it to the bank.

At least our women's side has not been annihilated by a team of 15 year old boys like the all conquering U.S.A. women's soccer team.

No, it was the Matildas that were belted 7-0 by the Newcastle Boys U15s.

Without sounding sexist... we have become so politically correct , it wouldn't surprise me.
That being said I think there are far better prepared and qualified candidates.. The role should be who is best for the job... I'd prefer someone who's played at elite level and has has several stints as assistant on AFL game day... and much more experience than PETA.
If she ends up winning several AFWL premierships that I'd have a look at her. She has done a good job so far but .. not up to the top dog status

I used to be supersaints but after 16 years my profile dissapeared... ??? if I make any reference to past posts .. it will be under supersiants.. glad to be back on line

Why doesn't she have the necessary experience? Because she hasn't been an assistant coach or a head coach for any considerable length of time compared to all the other talked about potential coaches ?????

Heard her coaching the girls at Sandy, a friend of mine plays for the Southern Saints

I think she may have found her level, not that impressed.

Too much confusion in the box

Yeah, like Chris Fagan!! Oh wait a minute......
Chris Fagan's tenure at BLFC is interesting viewing at present. Probably a front runner for coach of the year. How many AFL coaches have there been who never played at the highest level. Well Brendon Bolton is the recent example and the club didn't get the result they were looking for did they. Or did they. See I reckon there are two types of caretaker coach. The one you have when a coach is sacked, and the one you have for the start of a rebuild. Carlton would have known very well that it was highly unlikely Bolton would be their next premiership coach, this is based on the knowledge that a complete rebuild will take 3 to 5 years minimum before boys become men. So why spend the big bucks on a big name for this period and burn a reputation. Even the older wiser individual will be reluctant to throw his CV at this type of gig. But there is no shortage of youthful men full of exuberance and ambition who will gleefully throw thier CV in the mix. Clubs are now going down this path while their list is in a rebuild holding pattern.

Was BLFC thinking Fagan was a holding pattern coach just like Hawthorn might of thought Clarko was going to be for their rebuild back in 2003. Could Fagan be as lucky a bastsrd as Clarko and have landed himself at a club that has fortuitously assembled a critical mass of once-in-a-generation players and actually snag a flag or more.

And as we know perception is everything in AFL. All of sudden coaches that have never played at the highest level will be all the rage.

It's ya classic chicken and egg argument. Do coaches make players or is it the other way around, or is it something in between. I tend to believe it's the latter. And there is zillions of tonnes of evidence from sporting team histrory to validate the hypothesis.

The sum of all parts.
